That may be part of the probem as the 5% charge on XStreet sales may not cover the full cost of hosting the site - but yes it is an attempt to get more money from the customers and, of course, this will be carried on down the line. Increase costs lead to increased prices.

You should probably be spanked regardless of this thread.

Then maybe LL should stop trying to treat them as businesses. If they're going to price things on the presumption that most SL merchants are making a real profit, and that's wrong, then they can't succeed.
LL knows exactly how many (or few) individual people are making "real money" in the game, they shouldn't be making *any* kind of assumptions. They don't *have to* make assumptions.

My problem with most of the concept they had on there was that it was geared to much bigger businesses than mine. But, as usual, it just proved to me that LL doesn't care much about the little guys. Though... maybe they do, because they sent me the survey.

This is proally the first time I haven't received a survey from LL.

BUT...

I feel that LL is in the process of targeting the smaller business for extinction so the larger businesses can become more profitable and be able to jump onto LLs concept bandwagon with increased percentages going to LL coffers.

LL is just streamlining the grid for maximum profitability.

If this is so, then they can increase the charge to sell on XStreet. I don't feel compelled to pay for the hosting of XStreet when I already have to pay for the hosting of my own sites.

...The buying of XSL was the thin end of a very large wedge...

And then there was the "buy-out" or "I'll-make-you-an-offer-you-can't-refuse" to OnRez, successfully cutting out competition.

This sounds disturbingly like the "Public Option" in "Universal Healthcare".

Yanno, that was one of my first thoughts, especially when one of the previous posters said (paraphrased from memory) more tightly control the SL economy.

But, I didn't want to post that and create a political hailstorm...nope, not me. :D

ETA: Ah, dangit! Brenda and Amar beat me to it. (Can I get in on the tacklehugs anyway?)

Most "businesses" in SL are hobbies. It's hobbyists that created most of the content that people are paying real money for. The ones who are making real money are a fraction of a percent.

QFT!

I have a tiny business and I keep my overhead exceptionally low. However, once my business/hobby began making lindens, I no longer purchased lindens to buy items in world, will no longer do so, and use my hobby profits as my in-world "salary." Therefore, if LL's plan deters otherwise customers from my shop and I make fewer sales, it is less I purchase in SL, including land.

By myself, this means nothing to LL, but add thousands of other small business owners/hobbyists doing the same and it starts to add up for LL.

Or maybe not. At any rate, I have everything I "need" in SL at this point so if this all gets to be a major hassle for my hobby, I'll just shut it down, not purchase anything else and go dancing. :)

Doesn't LL get enough of our money already? Pink is shooting herself in foot with this one. Many will leave SL if this happens. I haven't received the survey yet, from the sounds of it it's LAUGHABLE! and quite frankly the top 10 merchants are overpriced and doesn't suit my tastes. I wouldn't support them. This is rediculous especially with so much new talent coming in everyday that blows away the top 10 lol. Keep dreaming LL lol

Gotta make up for all the lost tier these days somehow.

More cake, not pie!

That's the problem, lost tier less money so it's time to get money elsewhere. I have to pay 20% vatted tier plus 15% for every sales + 40% taxes with an U$ dollar worth half an euro and a world full of opencopybot clients.

Really I have something better to do than loosing my time playing SL

I didn't get one, even though I DO sell (a very few) things. If you get it again, Allie, would you answer NO for me please? Thanks.

Your punishment should be reading the 2 blogothingy threads about the survey, and reporting back with a synopsis. 5000 words or less, please.
