I realize this is not a resident answer relative question but while we have no moderation...
With respect Rosie, we shouldn't allow this reason to let the forum digress completely from Resident Answers or we shall indeed loose it.

I am sorry you are sad and offer a virtual *hug* .. from the son of an Ordinary Seaman now no longer with us but thankfully due to natural causes.

The other thing, Rosie, I'm afraid you aren't going to receive the respect you're hoping for from everyone. Might not be a good thing if you are already feeling sad.

Not personally, but I am the proud daughter of a WWII Army Air Corps mechanic and granddaughter of a WWI Navy vet who crossed the Atlantic several times on a troop ship. Also uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends too numerous to mention served from WWII to the present day.

Though I haven't served in the military, I certainly have a number of family who have served in the past and recently. Both sides of the family cover from WWI all the way up to Iraq and Afghanistan. I always got a kick out of Aunt Celina being the Marine in WWII. National Guard, Army Air Corp, the Army, Navy have all had some family at one time or another. The Veterans section at the tribal cemetery was expanded some years ago since so many have served. I have cousins who are serving now in various branches of the military. I couldn't be more proud of all of them. I wish I could do more to honor all who have and are currently in active service.

Best wishes to you Rosie and those dear to you in the services.

-------------

Ive met quite a few people who are in the military in SL. So its maybe not as off topic as first appears.

I remember one of the very first stories I read about SL involved two ladies who missed their soldier online boyfriend.

A little rephrasing and it could have been an interesting question. Something like:Are you in the service, are you overseas acessing SL, how does it help you cope, etc

For my family, it is an overwhelmingly male one and it is an unwritten rule that they all do some military service. Even in civilian life, most of us work in public service. My older brother is Career Air Force and is currently back in Germany, my other brother did a tour in the Navy, I have several cousins on active service, my Dad was Navy. I even did some ROTC and was looking to maybe attending Annapolis, but an injury put an end to those plans.
* Bilbo is correct though. We should try to keep at least the subject of the threads we open sort of on topic.*

Sounds like my family. Everyone in my family has served as one term in the military with the exception of my brother. The only reason my brother hasn't served is because all 4 times he tried to enlist they told him no due to his Leukemia. Myself I'm an active duty Marine getting ready to return to the civilian world.

If the other general discussion topics can run rampant, I don't know why this one can't. I wish you would repaste your original OP so those of us who missed it could be clued in.

Basically she was making a post about her family who served and seemed like she missed some that were overseas.

A sentiment shared by many in SL, Im sure. Since a lot of SL Residents are in the military, and thus their friends miss them (and worry).

Just to be factually contrary:

Not american.
Not military.
No-one in my family or relatives have ever served in any military force for any nation.
Not interested in anything military.
Not interested in petty nationalism of any stripe.
Not interested in military dramah. You made your choices and knew the risks involved.
Not interested in pro-military arguments.

...and that would be the reason she was advised to take down the post I assume. Responses like that. =/

Am sorry I missed the original post too. Never served (not able to) but my father did once upon a time.

with all of those feelings and sentiments then why even open a thread about the military let alone post in it just to throw a wrench?

But I will bet that you want all those who are serving to come home safely and soon. At least I hope that's the case.

They made it clear they weren't American, but they didn't say where they were from. Just have to wonder if the American Army isn't the reason they are free now.

Until the world changes to one where those who have guns won't take things from those who don't, there is going to be a need for a military.

Pacifism is a worthwhile and noble goal. But being oppressed kinda bites.
