What's REALLY interesting is that these things are scripted to disappear when your av gets a certain distance away. I only found it with a camera sweep when my Mystitool showed all these avs literally on top of each other in an otherwise deserted commercial area.

Don't know. I've never seen this before. All I know is that you can actually just go into this store, walk back into that room, and they are not there. Go away, sweep with your camera, and there they are.

Reminds me of the 1960s show "The Outer Limits'. Pods growing in a greenhouse..or garage..splitting like mitochondria into human beings.. aliens awaiting their birth into our enviroment.

it is just one person with crap load of bots that get counted as traffic for each.free accounts are amazing and this is what happens all over.. this is why the resident count is so high..

Can someone please explain these bots to me?

Are they a load of alts? Is someone sat at a computer running these alts at the same time? Because they must have some powerful computer, I bet Second Life is a beast to run just once let alone 6 or 7 at the same time...

Ty Claire - it makes me nuts when everybody goes to visit the bots, and just accomplishes exactly what the property owner intended. Not exactly the way to discourage this kind of activity.

They are bots that use a very stripped down version of SL, so running multiple copies isn't an issue. So the landowner sticks them up there, and because it's the only place they visit, 100% of their allocated "traffic" numbers are applied to the landowner.

And then the forum goes visiting and boosts traffic by that much more. I feel totally sorry for the rest of the people in that landowner's business category, because they'll get shoved down because of "looky-loos".

Wow Honey...thanks for that answer. I've wondered what the difference was between bots and alts myself and now I can be counted among the edumacated. I've only visited a bot farm once and that was just to see what it really was. It was one that was posted here and above a store up in the sky. I wasn't sure if they were camping or bots...but they all had the same group tag. Was actually pretty creepy.

What a bunch of bandwidth vampires! And I'm absolutely astounded that LL would let this go on....and you know they know! Ugh!

I was really dismayed when I went to one of my favorite shops and found an army of 10 or so grayed out bots, all with the same last name (first names were all close as well, e.g. Anne1, Anne2, Anne3, etc) dancing mindlessly. Even though I like this woman's products, I haven't been back. Too depressing.

Yeah it totally turns me off a place if there are floods of campers around. It might boost their traffic numbers but I can't imagine many people enjoy shopping in those places.

Let's not mix bots with campers. They are not necessarily the same thing although they have the same impact on traffic numbers.

Boy, I hope not! My club is frequently seen like that on the map...not campers, trust me!

Yep. I've seen several people do that. They can't hide from the minimap though!
