I spend a lot of time on here too, reading and sometimes replying but don't feel the need to turn people's threads into a spam fest. You may think I have no sense of humour but that's not the case, I just find a lot of it boring and repetitive and disregards the subject of the thread.

Well, I may be biased, but I don't see a lot of that happening unless a) things are getting TOO serious (it's only a virtual world, after all) and need to be defused, b) the topic has pretty much already been beaten to death, or c) this was an inappropriate place to post whatever it was in the first place.

And I do think everyone here tries to be as helpful as they can when someone really needs assistance.

Alexa, judging from Yuriko's subsequent comments, I think she MEANT for this thread to be a silly one. She deliberately planted the seed, then stepped back to watch us all sprout up like a hilarious crop of weeds.

It's always the same 10 or 12 people tho.. Just recently someone posted a very interesting question that I really was waiting to get the answer to, and the off-topic started second post. Three and a half pages later that question was spammed, derailed, and buried... without a single on-topic reply. I mean come on.. Some people DO use this answers forum to try and find answers, not to chit chat. I don't think anyone would say a little bit isn't acceptable.. Hell, a lot of it is funny, there's just too much of it. It's not fair for those who come here to use this forum for it's intended purpose that they should have to sift through literally 10's of pages in a thread to find an on-topic reply.

I'm sorry that happened to the thread you were interested in, but I see (on average) at least as much helping as silliness going on. But, like I said, since I'm often participating in the silliness, I may be biased. I just know that I do also try to provide serious responses to people's questions when I know the answers.

If the question was not answered in 3 and a half pages, then probably no one had the answer, With the exception of myself, whose helpfullnes is well below even Figtree's, the same 10 or 12 derailers are also among the most knowledgeable people here. They usually have the answer and give it up promptly.
