Using webcams in SL

I think it all depends on the display of the webcam. I mean, long ago, webcams updated like every ten seconds or something, by pushing a new static image onto the http server; I wouldn't know why this wouldn't just work as-is for the current html-on-a-prim. (Do we know it doesn't?) But the "motion" webcams all use plugins of some sort, don't they? and it would be asking a lot for html-on-a-prim to already include java-on-a-prim, or the like. (There is intense interest in getting Flash working, but it's sure not there yet, and I don't think that's terribly helpful in this application anyway.)

Otherwise, yeah, I think parcel media with a QT-compatible stream format is the currently viable option--and will gobble much bandwidth between the streaming host and all the viewers.

It seems you do not understand the rules either. Which part of "deliberately unhelpful" are you having trouble understanding? I will try to explain it to you.

From my viewpoint that is precisely what Front said. It was Collete who was telling the forum what the rules were (This is a forum. People express their opinions. Thats the deal.), and it was Front who was pointing out what the 'official' rules state, which Collete took exception to (I wonder why).

I am one of those who gets so tired of reading interesting post topics, to find that so much of the posts are taken up with people attacking the question-asker, people who are, yes, deliberately unhelpful (such as Peggy on this occasion), and people like Collete who seems to post in so many threads, but invariably off-topic (also banned in the 'official rules').

So please, if you have something constructive to offer to the OP on his problem with his webcam at the North Pole, offer it. If you want to have a discussion about the rules, trolling, unhelpful posts, etc, then start a thread on that issue.

Against my better judgement I have been moved to add to the hijacking of this thread. So, I will add no more, and I hope the OP gets some helpful comments instead.

Colette, you must know just as well as anyone that your average posting is more often off-topic, then actually answering a question. You seem intelligent enough.

This a forum, so people are expressing their opinion. Well, I beg to differ, since this forum is Resident Answers. Ment for people to ask a question, and other resident to answer that question.

Now do not get me wrong, I don't have any problem with off-topic posts, I make them myself as well. What I do have a problem with, is the constant "I am better then you" mentality I am seeing more and more in this forum. Answer a question, after that make some witty remarks, but stop trying to convince people you are better then they are. (by the way this is not in anyway ment towards you Colette, this is more my general feeling about the forums lately). We all have opinions, but always think wether they actually add to the topic, or are just ment to put another poster down.

As tools go webcams are needed and in time I'm sure thy will be in second life.

There are people who there real live selves are very much extension of SL.
And if we didn't have real live selves or needs or even real life opinions in SL or this forum
thing would be pretty quite in my humble opinion.
Any one who done any type of online pixel stuff with guys knows they constantly want to discuss their rl privates or want to see yours....so yeah new trend especially in SL sex entertainment areas will involve cams.
There is probably educational non-sexual purposes for it in SL too.
I have to agree with those who find people debating and talking down someone who is actually questions that it does get annoying and its down right rude and disrespectful.
I don't think they like it one bit if it was done to them.
I am going to side with Marcel, Yes Collete I know personally majority of your 14000 post are I have read most of them and majority in last two years are argumentative and combative, except when you're joking around or making fun of someone.
