What happens when you die?

If you go to a sim where you can be injured, or killed...what happens to you?

Does your AV truly die? Do you suffer broken limbs? Or are you just dead/injured until you TP or log out?

Inquiring minds want to know, since I personally don't go to those kinds of sims.

You're automatically teleported home, just as if you'd chosen the "teleport home" button on the menu.

That's all. Next time you go back to the sim, you're back at full health.

When your heart meter is at zero percent, your avatar is teleported home.

I always test weapons with my poor fiance, as my parcel is set to damage. His parcel is just next to mine, so whenever I blast him into oblivion, he just pops up again 20 meters away.

I think it depends on the sim.

I've gone to pure combat sims (ie, no rp involved) and when one is "killed" (ie no more health left on combat meter) the AV falls down and it gets dark on the screen. That lasts for several seconds, then the AV gets up and can continue.

In rp sims - there are rules regarding kills. For example, if one is killed in rp, then she can't play the AV for 7 days, BUT can play the AV as a "ghost." (Haven't participated in that type of rp yet - just read rules.)

HOWEVER....again....all of this is voluntary. You can't be "killed" without a combat meter on and rp sims generally have visitor tags where one can observe "safely" without being caught up in the fray.

Death in SL is one of those horribly difficult things to find documentation on. Always has been.

I sort of found out the hard way my first day in SL years ago. As a clueless Newb I had a habit of flying around and just checking things out. Coming from TSO to SL the grid was just an awesome place to me and I wanted to check out every nook and cranny of it (back then that actually was possible with less than 100 sims). I sort of wandered into a combat sim. Bang dead in 30 seconds or less LOL.

Landed back in ahern wondering wth happened.

I was looking at land once and was warned that I could be injured at the sim, which was very rocky with cliffs. LOL...I got so nervous, I left without looking at the property!

Has he ever had a "near death experience" in between whiles?

Well When I die in SL I just go to Heaven Above the Clouds, and when I get there, I get to eat pie!

I have a landmark to a suicide booth...

I wouldn't mind trying that death thing if it wasn't like- permanent... so if someone wants to tell me how- or wants to do the deed - I could be interested -

in RL- I am trying the suicide in the installment plan thing- you know- too much bad food and too much liquor- did stop the smoking, may have to re0think- but if I could have a preview- that could be interesting....

In the I Am Legend area when you die you sort of disappear and get replaced by this flashing icon and you have to run to place where you can be resurrected.

There IS the occasional logout during those 20 meters.

And once, while I thought I had died already and was safely back home, I ... died. At home. And then crashed.

When I got back in, I found out that the server had obviously never noticed that I had been home already because it put me back on Alyx's land. Without being dead or having been dead.

That was weird.

I might eventually visit a combat sim. The only time I have died is in Toxic Garden. The ant ate me and I was TPd home. A little pop up appeared saying I have been killed and was being TPd home.

In I Am Legend you have to stumble over to somewhere to be "reborn". You are not instantly teleported anywhere. You stay where you died until you move yourself somewhere.

I've never died in SL but once I met a witch and she turned me into a newt.

But I got better.

You come back as a zombie and I shot you. Then you end up as tiny pieces of meat.

You go to the processing plant and get made into delicious snacks.

Actually, I have a plan for when I die in RL. I think this is brilliant and everyone should do it. I've acquired a lot of knowledge over the years that I'd like to pass on, and I'd like to do something really nice for future generations of kids. The kids are our future, after all.

I don't know when I'm going to die, though (don't worry, there's nothing wrong with me physically, but who knows, right? I could get cleaned out by a semi on the way home tonight). So I'm starting this now. I've been reading kids books outloud and recording it. I've also recorded lessons in fishing - which flies to use under what conditions, how to read the water, etc. I'm also doing holiday greetings. Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas Children! ...etc.

Then, when I die, I want to be given to a friend of mine who is a taxidermist. He can mount me in a sitting position and put an MP3 player in my skull. Then I can be placed in a rocking chair, maybe with a blanket over my lap. Generation after generation of future Trouts can hear me tell them classic stories or give fishing advice! They could dress me like Santa Claus in December and the kids could sit in my lap and tell me if they've been good or bad, the family could gather round and hit play so I could read "T'was the Night Before Christmas" on Christmas Eve. It would be great! Story time with Great great great great Grandpa Trout! If I had a USB port installed, they could download music and I could double as a stereo. "Turn up Grandpa! This is my favorite song!"

Oh man. This idea is GOLD. I should patent it! Everyone will want to do it.
