I keep my radio on all night and the channel I generally have it on at that time carries the show "Coast to Coast AM," which I've been listening to since Art Bell was the host.

I tend to drift in and out of sleep while listening and last night woke up to a discussion of "sustainability." The guest was talking about the importance of living someplace where one could have a garden and produce life-sustaining food if something happens to our food supply. Out of the clear blue (or so it seemed pertinent to the discussion) the guest said something about "on SecondLife..." The host said he didn't know what SL was whereupon the guest explained it quite well. Considering his sustainability discussion, I thought he was going to talk about Etopia, but he said he had an island and enjoyed going to the neighboring island to see what the women were wearing.

On the notes for last night's show, the last paragraph for this guest says:

From: someone
He also detailed a number of societal changes which he believes would improve the world population. One such suggestion was a movement towards a web-based democracy, calling nationalized governments obsolete. "They're no longer helpful, they're actually the problem," Channon observed. On the contrary, he said, the Internet is where true democracy is taking place in contemporary times and that it is fueling an eventual shift towards a shared global identity amongst the world's populace. Other concepts he discussed included embracing simplicity, decentralizing governments into "bioregions," and having companies diversify their output in order to maintain jobs.

Me too! ("Wanna take a ride?";) Sometimes on the weekends the show plays tapes of Art Bell dating back into the 1990's and he still comes on to do his Ghost to Ghost show on or near Halloween as well as his yearly predictions show.

Were they real time travelers or the bogus ones?

Real ones, of course!

And if you stop to think about it, if you *were* a time traveler... do you think you would get farther if you said "take me to your leader" instead of "take me to Art Bell's radio listeners?"

If I were a time traveler on a mission, Art Bell would be my first stop. The mission would get accomplished, and if I went to anyone else I'd be locked up!

That sounds like something a lizardman would say!

My guardian angel is Coyote. So I guess he's not really an angel. Or a guardian.

I sometimes listen to C2C and have since back in “99", the good old Art Bell days but since George N took over I tend to listen less often. Just watch out for Mel’s Hole, I’ve heard its pretty deep! BTW somewhere I have a copy of the tape Art played of some russian who recorded the sounds of hell!

It's not Art Bell this year doing Ghost to Ghost. It's George Noory, the current host of CTC. I was bummed when I heard that.

Here's the problem with C2C. Have you ever listened to a rerun from say... 5 or 10 years ago?

It's usually a terribly intense, yet sincere guest predicting the next doomsday or an impending breakthrough in a realm of pseudo science.

And you realize, listening ten years later, that nothing ever came of their great revelation, their near discovery.

I wonder what tonight's intensely sincere guest will reveal about our near future?

Staaay tuned.

I owe all Americans sort of an apology . . . I used to listen to Art Bell occasionally, just for giggles, when I was up late doing assignments and stuff . . . and I have to admit that a lot of my early prejudices about US culture derived from his really weird mixture of loony-right anti-government conspiracy-theory let's-all-live-underground-and-converse-with-aliens ideology . . .

I know better now. Honestly. :D

Prior to that (in the 10 pm-1 am EST time zone) the guest was a discussion of that good ole topic: Was the moon landing a hoax. The BEST thing about that was Art Bell was hosting, live!! It was great to hear him again.

I've heard that show. Those were some pretty creepy sounds. The other shows that used to freak me out were when ghost hunters played tapes of sounds in haunted places.

(Of course since C2C comes on so late, I was generally listening in bed...in the dark.)

I remember all his shows leading up to Y2K. (And was properly prepared with a stash of bottled water, meals ready to eat, first aid supplies, etc. ;) )

Really? A couple of weeks ago I thought I heard George say Art would return to do his traditional Ghost to Ghost, but I might have heard wrong, or the schedule changed since then. :(

I'm almost positive he did say Art would do the annual predictions show.

If I was a time traveler, I'd go shopping and buy cds.

If I was a time traveller I'd find out who was responsible for the "Ribbon" in Office and Vista and go back to before he applied at Microsoft and get him that job working on videogames he really wanted.

I'd travel in the future - everything in the past is done already and you can't make any money at it. I'd get all the things people are gonna invent and make out I did them when I got back to the present. Beat my competition!

You're not going to be able to buy CDs much longer (maybe 20 years, on the outside), so I guess you're only going "five minutes into the future".
