Can't we all just get along?

I mean Jezus H. Barbosa. I really enjoy posting and reading in the forums. I know I can always come to RA and laugh my ass off at silly comments, answer serious questions, and even not so serious questions. But what the hell. When silly topics like "Boytoy" get turned into discussions about feeling unwelcome, spamming, and self promotion, it makes me want to gouge my eyes out of my head with a rust can opener and stick pencils in my brain.

Why can't people just skip the post?
When I see a post about graphics cards and lost inventory, I usually pass them up. I don't post how graphics cards are silly and why are they promoting the maker of said card and that everyone should just buy shoes. Why bother, life and SLife is too short!

With that said:

I think for the most part we do all get along. I think the discussion in the Boytoy thread is just that, healthy discussion. Sure there's some attacks here and there but if you think this forum is bad you really need to go check some others out there. Is it wrong that someone in that thread wants to air their opinion?

We really are civil here. Sure we have our tiffs just like any family, but overall we get along.

I think we need a 4th option...We do already get along.

Am I the first? Then my decision is 100% - we can't get along. I love the silly threads (which aren't so sily in a world dominated by social interaction). I dont understand the technical stuff - but I know my way around sex balls.

We usually get along just fine. We don't always agree, but we are still usually civil in our disagreement. I disagreed with Bradley in that other thread, but I'm pretty sure he and I are still friends.

There really hasn't been a lot of flaming and hatred, especially compared with some other forums I've been involved with. There has been some, of course, but really - we get along pretty well.

Wth, I read the graphics cards posts and sometimes respond. It's a dirty job but somebody's got to do it.

OK, maybe not, but some people enjoy it, what can I say.

I've been thinking that we're suffering a dearth of real questions to be answered here lately. And so we have a superabundance of answerers in need of something to do. Idle hands, etc.

Well... there is a serious one about making seamless glass that's somehow taken a nasty turn. Having thoroughly confused everyone on that thread with my earlier posts I think my work there is done, but it's a bad sign when even serious threads get hostile just for lack of other real questions to answer.

We really need an influx of n00bs to ask us stuff.

Yeah, but that guy is always grumpy. Doesn't mean the entire forum is. I don't know whether to laugh at him or be sad for him.



For the sake of the forums we could all log in as one alt and make up a question.

Threads run so long these days that they usually go like this for me:

First three posts: helpful answers, getting along fine.
Post four: First derail, anger begins to bubble up
Page two: Brenda says something funny and we lighten up
Page five: A troll pops in and takes offense to everything and everyone. War ensures.
Page twelve: The last flames die out, humor returns
Page fifteen: 3ring says something actually on the original topic, shocking everyone.
Page twenty: Boredom reaches critical mass. Would someone lock this thing already?

Can't we just get along? Yes. "We" can at worst agree to disagree, and get on with things. But:

Can't we ALL just get along? Sadly, no. ALL includes that handful of people who don't want to get along.

Good thing everybody else gangs up on them when they show up here. Then they either settle down, or they don't stay long. : )
