Gor Question

Hi I really interested in learning about Gor and how to find a clan to join. I want to be a female warrior but do not know where to start. i have been to most of the gor sims to observe but there is lot a still I need to learn. Any helpful hints or fun groups to join let me know.

On Gor Female "Warriors" do not fight.

They are family members of Gorean male Warriors. Its a Caste distinction (social class)

The women who fight are called "Panthers" or "Panther Girls" so you'll definitely need a sim that includes Panthers in its make up.

You wont see a whole lot of evidence of that in SL Gor. In fact a significant portion of the slave girls wouldnt qualify as Submissive. Or at least Sumitted.

As for Panther Girls being submissive is definitely NOT a requirement. They are basically outlaws living outside of the rules of society and away from the cities. They capture men to use as chattel for barter (to trade for arrowheads and the like).

Which raises one of the main issues I have with Gor personally: in my view, it is misogyny -- the notion that *all* women are existentially slaves to men is .. well a mild way of saying it is that it is nonsense, and a more frank way of saying it is that this is misogynistic in the extreme.

Actually Norman goes much farther than that.

The OP asked a fair question and was pointed in the right direction. Please don't let this thread degenerate into another onging war about the "rightness" of "wrongness" of the Gorean lifestyle in SL. That horse has been beat to death here in the forums waaaaay too many times here. If anyone thinks they have an opinion on Gor then please do a search in the forums. Everyone's opinion has been stated by someone else umpteen jillion times already.

Arrowheads? Arrowheads!! Insulted. I'm worth at least a spear, a couple hides and a genuine Gorean toaster oven. I'm good for all sorts of worthwhile things, like propping open doors, sitting on the curb holding up a mailbox, and popping microwave popcorn. I almost never slobber up the Gorean tennis ball when we play fetch, and if there's trouble I can run away better than anyone I know. Trading me for arrowheads is like trading a Stradivarius for bubble gum.

FWIW, I think the Gors should be allowed to do what they do. But please, let the rest of us critique them -- fair play it seems to me, on both ends.

yeahhhhh ... that's what they do with them. Of course, before that they may put them in kajiru silks, brand them, play a little. At least the ones i've seen ... but i only hung out for a short while, in one city. I did manage to attach my camera a few times to warriors who ended up at the local panther camp, tho. Graphics distance nearly fried my laptop, but it was educational

Female mercenaries would be an aberation, extremely rare.

In most "Civilized" society on Gor any woman that uses weapons for anything but self defense or hunting would be collared.

Hence Panthers not living in "Civilized" society.

Of course SL Gor strays from the books, in some sims far more than in others.

Other than the silk part - this is pretty much how things would go in the books.
