Congratulations, you have passed a major milestone of initiation into Second Life. :^) I doubt nary a one of us has not passed that, and even occasionally repeat the experience just for remembrances. The item you purchased has been "boxed." The Second Life equivalent to packaging. Place the package on the ground, right click to bring up the pie menu and choose open. You will then get a dialogue box that will allow you to copy the contents into your inventory. Be sure to always pick up your box or package before you leave. Have fun! |

Just note you will have to find an area that allows you to rez objects. If there is a small box at the top of your screen with the red circle and slash through it you cannot rez objects there.

You won't officially be one of sl's residents 'til you don't accidently wear the box on your head.

Welcome to the forums, Brandi!
As others have said, we all have to go through the SL baptisnm of wearing boxes. Many of us, including me, still do it occasionally ![]() |

Welcome Brandi!
Like the others have said, drag the box tothe ground in an area where that's allowed then open it. Word of warning, make sure you're not between your inventory and the spot you're trying to drag the box to, or you'll still end up wearing the box. I speak from frequent experience ![]() _____________________

Be insure to always pick up your box or package before you leave. Have fun! Am I doing it wrong? I just delete the box on the floor. So if picked up it goes back to the inventory and then....? Love June PS I see the piont of not littering SL with boxes but out of interest what happens if left on floor? |

Love June PS I see the piont of not littering SL with boxes but out of interest what happens if left on floor? Deleting the box makes it go to your trash folder in your inventory. If you leave a box behind it will be returned to you either manually by the owner of the land or by auto-return. In those cases it will appear in your lost and found folder. I think there's also one particular situation in which you lose the box and contents (presuming they're copyable items), if the land owner decided to delete the box. Can't check right now what the particular set of premissions is that makes that happen. As a rule tidying up after yourself is the polite and sensible thing to do. ![]() _____________________

Love June PS I see the piont of not littering SL with boxes but out of interest what happens if left on floor? The word on the menu is take, at least on my client. I can only delete it once back in inventory. If you abandon it the owners auto or manual return will give it back to you later anyway .. maybe with a complaint and/or a ban so be tidy please. Oh and yes, everybody upon everybody does it once at least. And while 'objects' are represented in inventory by boxes even *after* unpacking, long will avies remain wearing boxes!!!! /me thinks ... I don't think I've ever worn one on the head though .. always seem to carry it!!! ![]() _____________________

Hi, Brandi...welcome to SL and to the forums. If you click on a box, or "object", in your inventory and click wear, you will indeed wear that box. You can do things to open it.....you can drag it from your inventory onto the ground, or you can wear it and then right click on and click "detach". When the box is on the ground, just right click, and then open. A box will open showing you the contents of the box. Just click on "copy to inventory" and a folder will appear in your inventory with the same name as the box. You can then click on the objects in the inventory to wear them. One word of advice.......keep your inventory organized. It basically works like any file systems, and you can create folders and subfolders. When you're new, it's easy for your inventory to get out of control, which can make your SL experience time consuming from looking for inventory objects. Good luck and happy SL'ing.

To delete a rezzed object, you can also right-click and hit the delete key on the keyboard.

You dont really need to be in a place that allows placing the box on the ground. Simply wear the box. Right click it and select edit. Then you can go to "contents" and simply drag the items into your inventory.

Classic halfling upbringing .. concentrate on the pie in front of you! Thanks Sally and Chas I assumed from the land owners only being able to return, not delete other objects carried over to this._____________________

You are not supposed to wear those boxes?? Oh well, you live and learn! I know what you mean lol. Even some designers think you should wear boxes! I bought a bikini in a box, went to a sandbox a while back to unpack it, and it wouldn't unpack! I think they just textured a prim to be honest lol. So I have to buy a new one or something. |
