Why is avatar height not to scale?

I really am curious on this. Why do so many people call those that are tall freaks? If you see tall people in RL do you call them freaks too?
Sure someone with the height sliders all maxed is unnaturally tall. But then so is some one who is 6'11" in RL. And there are plenty of them wandering about (in RL).

I call my tall friends "freaks" all the time.. I call my short friends "freaks" too..
Of course, most of my friends ARE freaks... regardless of height.

As one of her freakish friends, I can confirm this.

That seems a good guideline for buildings but would that still be a good guideline to say building an accurate vehicle?
I'm currently building a vehicle using rl proportions and it seems to be too small. Part of that is prob down to me being tall in sl but even when I take that into consideration, it still seems small.

So I'll try the 1.25 or 1.5 scale guideline (Thanks Ceera Murakami !) and see how that looks

It just seems absolutely idiotic to put your height slider to max and then wonder why you are 6'10" and taller than the rest of the world.

It just looks stupid and most female avatars in that height range look masculine especially with the usual over-sized boobs with no gravity.

And yes, when i see a person in RL who is 6'10 I think "freak".

I believe that only 8% of the real world population is 6'2" (give or take a percentage point).

This attitude is as bad as the one that assumes all smaller avs are 'children.' In terms of height, there is no 'normal' in SL.

Wanting to have your chosen height accepted while calling others 'gross' and 'abnormal' for their choices is the ultimate in hypocrisy.

Edit: Reading Ianthe's later posts, I suspect she may not have been entirely serious; however, I have seen this attitude expressed on numerous occasions and it irritates the hell out of me. I don't understand why we can't all look the way we want without being given grief about it. There's no reason to have a real world realistic height avatar, just as there's no reason NOT to...SL is a fantasy realm, so do what makes you happy.

When I leave my normal hangouts. Suddenly I am roughly half the size of everyone else. I get a lot of people thinking i am a child.

However I am not, it's all you freaks that are to tall. Where I normaly hang out, I'm perfectly normal, and none of us are children.
