There is a Welsh cheese called St Illtyd.

I think that's the name of it anyway. It has wine IN it, as well as herbs and garlic.

It is truly, truly terrifying actually.

Whole Foods--they are all over the US, and have a wonderful selection of worldly cheeses.

No Whole Foods in my area of the Southeast US, unfortunately. you can find all sorts of cheeses on the internet. Might be hard so close to Christmas though. Wisconsin cheddar is always a good choice. I also find my area grocery stores (Sam's Club, Kroger, etc. have good selections.) But most areas have a local cheesery (is that a word?). You may be able to find one of those.

Yep, I remember stumbling (literally) into a bar in Los Angeles that served Anchor Steam beer on tap, in frozen glasses. I stayed for over two years.

Found some recently in a London, but it wasn't the same.

Mmmm. Anchor Steam...on tap? Wow. I love the Anchor...the only other micro-like-macro I like better is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Oh, and if any of you are in the Michigan area...try Bell's products...oh man, the best of the best. Oberon (Bell's summer brew) is the nectar of the Gods.

Anchor Steam is quite good. I first had it years ago, I was visiting my brother in California and we went into San Francisco. We went to a little place on the Embarcadero for lunch, it was a typical windy day out there, I had the most fabulous Clam Chowder, with sourdough bread and an Anchor Steam.

smells like dirty socks, ewww

although I am not quite sure what this thread has to do with SL

This IS resident answers for SL right?

(see told ya, some threads just get away with it and no one complains)

I would recommend some nice casu marzu, though, to be fair, it is illegal.

Holy cow. I think I'll pass on that one, Ordinal. I'll eat some pretty dreadful stuff in the interests of experiencing the culture of wherever I travel, but if I have to check for the presence of live maggots to make sure that my cheese hasn't decomposed to a toxic state before I eat it, maggots and all, I think I might not be able to continue.

Funny - the wikipedia article said it's often served with strong red wine. I'm guessing gallons and gallons of strong red wine. LOTS of wine.

Yep, I suppose Anchor Steam is a little big now to be called a micro. And hey, I love anything that include's the word ale in it name.

Michigan's a bit too far away to visit for a beer, but I will keep an eye out for Oberon in London.

Cheers:)

Don't know if this has been posted or not hun, (didnt read the whole thing) but I would choose a variety. Both soft and hard. Not every one likes the same thing, and most dont give a heck if it goes with the wine or not. They just like the way it affects their taste buds. Now do be sure and choose the right crackers to go with the cheese though, that is a must.

Urf. I'd rather drink the bleach and throw away the cheese.

It must be said that one does not have to brush jumping larva from American Cheese lest they survive in one's intestines and start eating. However, I imagine that the taste of casu marzu is a lot more rich and complex.

Had someone told me when I rolled out of bed this morning that today would present me with the opportunity to mention affinage and entomophagy in the same sentence I wouldn't have believed them. But there you have it. And you can have it.

I do like limburger, though. It smells worse than it tastes. Do not, however, try it in a grilled cheese sandwich. I learned that one the hard way when it was really too cold to be opening windows.
