A friend of mine has the abilty to "hug" me by using some kind of animation device. A little screen will come down and say "so and so wants to animate your avatar" Accept /decline, i have also seen that vampires use this same device.

What is the name of this kind of device, Becasue i want to get them myself. Are they gestures, animations, All i can seem to find are poseballs, and these are not poseballs.

And how do they work, so that i can make a joing animation with someone else?

Generally known as huggers or hug/kiss attachments -- have a look on Xstreet and you'll find dozens for free or almost free ones. There are several that are combined with AOs, which is useful, or take a look at Ilse's Multi-Gadget, which has one of these (and does lots of other cool stuff, too).

Is "joing" like "kipling"?

The best one I've ever used is the Meike TM Kiss And Hug Animator. You can get a 400L or an 800L version and they are wonderful.

I've often been offered taht. But its not really "me" Notice how the girl's leg goes up all coyly? I have NEVER done taht in my life. I much prefer a good old fashioned quick hug with a colple of kisses and a pinch on the bumcheek.
Anyway, by that point the blokes prolly having a cigarette in real.

You can animate your own avatar without permission, but any time something that doesn't belong to you wants to animate your avatar, it needs permission.

Likewise if you or something you own wants to animate another person's avatar.

This includes dance balls, hug/kiss scripts, and other things.

It's part of LSL, Second Life's scripting language:

This.

Be careful, because a lot of the animations out there were written pre-Mono, and Mono handles things a lot different from the old LSL, so with some older animations you now get your av hopping up and down during a hug or kiss. Not only is the Meike one the best in terms of available anims and ease of use, it's Mono-compatible.

Jig you are so funny. Treasure's leg doesn't go up but she does sometimes sort of 'hop' a little when in the hug animation. I think that's a conflict with my AO or something. Is pretty funny actually, looks like she's tryin' to .....well, NVM...... :p

Errm. No, it's not the animations and nor is it to do with Mono. The way these things work, they animate both you and the person you want to hug (the script has to request permissions of both of you, but since you're wearing the object, the permissions are granted silently and automatically).

The gadget then has to move you towards the object of your affections, which it does using the function llMoveToTarget. Because this is a physics function, the way the most commonly used-huggers move you to the person you're trying to hug (and stop you when you get there) got borked a bit when we switched to Havoc 4 (not mono) but Dari Caldwell worked out a how to recode that bit of the routine, and her solution has been in the jira since April last year https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1191 and most people have implemented it. If you've having problems with your av bouncing up and down, it's nothing to do with the animation or mono; it's because you've got a very old hug/kiss device.

Or, as Treasure suggests, it could be your AO and the hugger fighting with each other.

Ohhh! Thanks for the lead on that Meike TM Kiss And Hug Animator. I just got the Deluxe version, and it's worth every L$!

I'm going later today when I get inworld, sent myself a reminder to do it. My hug anim is from 2007, or at least, that's when I got it. It's not even a very great hug, time for new. To get it close to right, you have to plant your av just right, exactly lined up correctly with who you are trying to hug. If you don't, it's off and you and your 'hugee' are hugging thin air. It takes a chemistry formula practically to figure out the exact lineup. Sometimes I get lucky, more often not and takes 2 or 3 tries. Does the Meike have that problem too or is easier to 'hook up' evenly?

Well, when I tested my new one, I did have it pretty accurately lined up to begin with. So I am not 100% certain they have the alignment perfected. But the auto-correction for height is great! When I tried hugging several avatars of wildly different heights, including one 3'11" child avatar, it performed superbly.

Sent the OP one free hugger with the leg-humping problem fixed.

And I also recommend Meike Heston's huggers, the animations are sweet!

ETA: As far as I know from both reading and testing, the only way to have a hug line up perfectly every time is to use poseballs.

Just in case anybody finds this confusing (and because I'm feeling pedantic :p ), it's a little different from this. The permission to animate is automatically available to scripts in objects you're sitting on or that you have attached.

Any attachment must be owned by the agent to whom it's attached, but ownership alone isn't enough to get one animated. Try dropping your AO on the ground, resetting its scripts (if it doesn't reset itself), and using it: it will ask for your permission. Or, if you sit on somebody else's furniture (or animation vendor) it will be able to animate you without asking your permission, even though you don't own it.

You've never had a kiss that caused your leg to go up???

But... does it animate you? I can imagine an AO script that just doesn't do anything if it's not attached. But if the scripts were really reset and the object isn't attached or sat upon, it sure better not be able to animate anybody without their permission.

I'm pretty certain I had rezzed my ZHAO-II onto the ground and noticed my avatar going through the stand animations... I'm going to have to investigate this some more, now that you mention it.
