But I don't want one that just seems lame and like a far reach. It has to have a ring to it. Sheesh this is hard. :/

Marketing is what kept me from opening a business. That, and taking several months to build one house.

I plan to sell houses ...

Pied à Terre would be a cute name for a business selling homes. SL has character folding so entering it without the accent in Search still works.

Yes, French names work and lend a certain...I don't know what? ;-)

Weston: Marketing - yes. I don't see anything in place, really, for marketing within SL. Other than taking out expensive ads which may or may not work. Are there marketing firms?

Strikes me that trademark/licensing committee (run officially I guess, to avoid scamming, as apparently happened with the SL BBB), marketing firms, publicity firms, party planners, and event management are lacking in SL.

I really wonder how the top names in SL business got off the ground? Although today's freebie and hunt glutted market is another kettle of prims most likely anyhow. :/

Weston your sky home is really good though. Shops with just a handful of high quality items seem to do well too.

Already taken; that's the name of Mickey Vandeverre's store :)

Thanks, Skell :)

I have a story that might apply here about choosing a name. I had worked really hard to open up the store, and get that name promoted, when I logged in one day to check my traffic count, and lo and behold another furniture store had just opened with that name. I was bummed royally. And had a wee bit of a Tude about it.

So I sent a note to the owner about it (fortunately I did not go off - but was nice - which is not often the case - lol)

This could have gone two ways. He could have been a total jerk and said that he was running with it....which I suppose 98% of the people would. But instead he was totally unnerved, and apologized to no end....and changed it up within 24 hours. He removed all marketing within 24 hours as well. Even his packaging was all in place with the ETC. title....and he reworked it all immediately.

I asked him why he didn't do a search in Places and Classifieds to see that someone was already using that name - before busting it out. He said he didn't think to do that.

So definitely take all the names that you might try, and run them through all the searches before busting one out.

Also - think about how short you can make the name or abbreviate it. When you go to label all your products - it comes in real handy to have something with only 3 letters that you can slap on there - and leave plenty of space for other important key words. If you use 20 characters on your store name in the item titles - you've just blown a ton of opportunities with effective keywords.
