I confess, I had a walk around Bay City in the shadow viewer and it was actually quite nice.

There are no rules for mainland panels. The thing I dont like is when someone does something that directly affects my parcels. I once had my front door of a house facing another parcel. the people on the next plot put up a huge highway complete with elevated sections so i effectively had a lovely stone wall to look at. i have since then had many many odd things spring up around me...even one store that built next to mine and opened INTO my store. I generally have contacted the owner and worked on a solution...sometimes I can, sometimes I cant. However, I have outlasted them all. I find that people who slap up giant walls tend not to stay too long around me...and i just keep buying up more land and figure this too shall pass when another wall goes up.

LL should close the mainland, it's just not working. It makes SL look worse than it is.
Actually a lot of us who can't afford our own islands are happy with mainland, despite the obvious problems with ugly builds.

Mainland offers secure land ownership within an uncontrolled environment.
Renting on a private sim offers insecure tenure within a more controlled environment.

You pays your money, you takes your choice!

LL safeguards?

Like LL protecting you when a neighbor puts up a large screen with a picture of a tree on it?

I think you'll be much safer on a private estate.

As others have suggested, I meant the security of not relying on a middleman landlord.

Pinos are you talking about the wall to the north of your slot machine parlor? If you are, it is quite understandable if your neighbor doesn't want a view of your place. It's a panorama to make their view more pleasant.

If it is that parcel of land, I don't know why you would even care since it is unlikely that it affects your business, but rather than grief your neighbor for legitimate use of a panorama you might try talking to them instead and ask them to modify the panorama so that it is transparent on your side.

If they won't do it, a simpler solution, if the panorama really bothers you, would be to elevate your slot machine parlor to the sky. There are lots of slot machine parlors that operate above ground level.

Yes. This is something that business operators new to SL dont always get immediately. Patrons of slot machines as is mentioned here (and similar businesses) arent in the place for the view outside. They there to participate in the activity within.

Take it to the sky. Is better for the patrons. Edit: less lag being the most immediate benefit for them.

I'm another mainland lover, I've had many plots with many avatars over the years and only in a couple places did I have any problems (For example, when buying beach front property, make sure the water isn't for sale)

Currently I have a beautiful forested area with a nice stream and a little rock house. My neighbors are all building in a forested theme which is really helping (although the one prim flat dear wandering around is really bugging)

On one side I have a plot for sale that drops too low, the current owner decided to sell it as "flat land" on the side of a mountain. That bugs me a little, but it's not really noticeable to me and that's all that maters.

Why escalate with a revenge build? Rise above all that - literally. Use the prims you would have used with a giant wall and build a platform 1000 meters up instead. You can landscape it how you want. Everybody wins.

Yeah.. you are all more or less right. Now i will tell you more so you get better pic.
First day when I moved in he came to me with "hey asshole".. Before that I rezzed only one and first prim. I wasnt even sure what I will be build there. I asked for apologize and said that we can talk after that, but none happened.
Actually Im not bothered by that panels so much and I think he is suffering more damage from it's own panel then I do. He is running kind of tropical appartments for rent and now his customers are looking at the wall. He owns almost full sim which is closed with such panels nearly all sides.. At last 2 sim sides are full covered. Panels are not phantom and my side is black + im banned there.. but that really dont mean anything to me.

And yes..anyone who said against building war is absolutely right. I actually dont care about him as long he stays at home and leave me alone... but then i thought.. I wolud like to see how will this man like my panels...anyway..that was stupid idea or lowering to his levels.

We could be friends and I could really do something for him, but would you change your house or building because of someone that uses "asshole" instead of welcome?

Funny how these things work sometimes...I spent a couple of days building an ice skating rink in the sky, I think somewhere around 6000m. It was very nice with ice block railings, alpha polar bears, particle snow, glacier ice, free skates. The moon and sunset/sunrise was beautiful.

My neighbor placed a huge metallic and day-glo pink mega box right next to my ice rink and obliterated the lovely view. There was nothing in the box for 4 months, though there are a few things now.

I've thought about sending an IM from time to time asking why she felt she had to put that ugly metallic box right next to my ice skating rink, but I always let it go. There are better things in SL to do than argue with an imbecile.

Just a thought...I'm new at this, but how difficult would it be for you to select your entire ice rink and move it down 1000m? Then, if he/she moves the mega box to chase you would it not be something you could AR? OTOH, it may be impossible to do what I suggest.

I just have a couple of small parcels in really junky neighborhoods. One has a water view but has some sort of pseudo military camp between me and the water, but they aren't obtrusive and it's fun to fire a few shots at them now and then, and they seem mostly harmless. They also sell Uzi's down there. I would never build anything nice on the parcels and the prim counts are low, but I really love walking down the nearby roads and looking at what's popped up lately...even have met a few nice people to talk with. I think sometimes we spend too much time TP'ing to our comfort places and not enough time wandering around enjoying SL (I know I'm guilty of that). Net, the mainland gives me diversity and I have my skybox cottages for isolation. If I were ever to give up my rental apartment I'd probably look at a non-mainland option, but I rather enjoy the diversity, even the idiot with the ban lines next door! Jackie

I need facts, not what should be or any personal prejudices. I have neighbour who don't like my buildings and he closed me with his (30-40m) panels. Since I dont like his panels, I wanna put mine but bit higher and wanna be sure im not conflicting with any of regulations here.

If anyone know for sure I would be gratufull for your answers.

Just ask your neighbor if he can make the walls transparent on your side so that you don't see them. Getting into a wall war won't help and could lead to abuse reports.

My partner has scenery walls around his parcel because it is in the middle of a really crappy bit of mainland...and also because he likes the feeling of privacy.

edit: reading the post you posted while I was posting, I see he is probably not feeling friendly toward you. Instead of a wall war, why not just put up a wall the same size as his and texture it nicely on your side? Even set his side transparent, then he would have no reason to complain.

...except for all the parts I use, explore, and travel on. ;-)

(Oh wait, that's a whole lotta ground)

Could I get the address so that I can come by and watch you and your neighbor each try to get their wall higher?

:D

Sounds childish to me. If you do not like what the neighbor put up, put up your own, but why do they need to be higher?

Finally, just to be sure we're on the same page - do you have eyes?
Ahhhh, sarcasm just because someone else might not consider it all as much of a blight as you do - nice.

Yeah, I saw that after posting. You are still definitely better off not getting into the building war though, so matter how much of an idiot your neighbor is.
