Selling down Mainland: How to do it responsibly?

I hope to be able to post to the wiki a transcript* of Jack's office hour from yesterday, once I can get in-world to retrieve the text from notecard. It gave me some hope, and some fear of pressing that "Abandon Land" button.

When I asked about a future drop in the opening bid for L$ auctions, Jack mentioned that the Nautilus City parcels open at about L$2/m2, and that they're considering whether that will "stick." So that reinforces my sense that stuff going to auction could become prime targets for landcutters in the medium term.

But in the slightly longer term, there's hope that existing Mainland will be immune from landcutting. This time, Jack responded to my question about timeframe for a landcutting policy, saying he hoped to get a Forums feedback thread on the topic within a week or two. (Last session, Jack either missed or chose not to address that question when I asked it; I've learned that his silence on a topic is sometimes revealing.)

So, inasmuch as my main concern is not to feed the scoundrels, it seems my best course of action would be to keep the land until a working anti-cutting measure is in effect. It's wasted tier, but I've been wasting that tier for a while, so another month won't much matter. I'll still let neighbors get any they want (and Marcel :) ). Most of the rest I'll probably set for sale at L$3.5/m2, knowing full well that's unrealistic in this market, but it should be high enough to discourage cutters. And who knows? Maybe some of it will sell and somebody will do something fun with it.

If you're trying to improve the neighborhood, might I suggest combining the land into one large parcel? That way there's at least a ghost of a chance of it being used by someone with a vision, a plan, and a financial stake in it, rather than a lot of willy nilly 512s all over.

In my opinion, the fewer the owners, the better the area. Mainland areas with many many owners tend to be as desirable as the worst parcel in the bunch.

Update - I'm encouraged by the responses I got from sending out notes to two different neighbors re: selling some of my land.

The land I want to keep is in the middle of the two parcels I'm selling. Each parcel is adjacent to one of the two neighboring parcels.

The first reply thanked me profusely for being so kind to offer the land (I NEVER would have thought of contacting neighbors so I REALLY appreciate that tip from this thread). He said he is at max tier but will let his partner know and she may be interested and he will get back with me.

The other neighbor said she was interested and wanted to talk. Both have very nice builds (residential) and one has been a long-term resident of this sim.
