Rorrim, the LindeX is the best place to sell. Other places may be better for buying. In terms of selling L, what rate did you try to sell your L at? If you pick a rate that is too far outside the prevailing sell rate, it can literally take months before it sells. You need to look at the lowest (highest number of L) sell orders in the millions and then add 1. Your order should fill within the hour if not much faster than that.

e.g., now the bulk of sell orders are at 263. Sell yours at 264.

Hi Cristalle... I am BUYING... not selling, not at this moment in time anyway :)

A limit buy order on the LindeX generally fills within minutes (most I've had to wait was half an hour).

https://secondlife.com/account/currency_settings.php <- make sure it's set to Advanced

Use the "Increase Your Credit" on your account page (https://secondlife.com/account/manage_balance.php) to put a US$ balance on your account to buy the L$ with.

Go to https://secondlife.com/currency/buy.php and look at the "Open *Buy* Orders". You'll want to place a limit buy order for 1 less than the lowest open buy order. Currently there's L$43 million at L$274/$1 so you'd place your limit buy order at L$273/$1 to make sure it gets processed first (for buy order the fill order is low to high and in the order they were placed for the same exchange rate).

At L$273/$1 L$15,000 would cost you $54.95 + $0.30 = $55.25 (compared to $57.33 if you just bought them the regular way)

SLex might have slightly better rates but I doubt it's going to make that much difference, especially since LindeX limit buys fill quickly (my last limit buy of L$27,319 filled in 37 seconds).

==================================================

Hi Kitty
currently I have around US$100 on my SL account. I set an order to buy Lindenand it's still not been filled. I will cancel this order and go for a lower rate..
the rates you list are better than a site I was pointed too.
To fulfill an order for $L15,000 on their site you'd need to do two orders.. as they dont have a fill order for $L15k it would work out at US$67.75!

10,000 Linden Dollars = $43.20 (£23 approx)
25,000 Linden Dollars = $111.75 (£60 approx)
50,000 Linden Dollars = $212.25 (£114 approx)
100,000 Linden Dollars = $405.00 (£219 approx)
Steep rates or what!?

Somehow I won't be using them!
take a look and tell me what you think of this lot. This is the website a friend pointed me to, as another option to buy.
http://www.thelindenstore.com/store/

I'll leave my order in place until Sat afternoon my time and then if it's still not filled I'll cancel it and try on SLX. So! It looks like I'm going to have to add money into my Paypal account now... as I've not used it in a few months so I'll have to add funds and that means having to wait for them to clear, if I recall correctly. I may just buy here, on SL, at a lower rate for now then... I assume that the avg price is around the 270 mark? I can put up with a small diff in the exchange but I'll be buggered if I'm gonna get striped by that lot listed above!

Also I saw this lot listed via a link on SL Linden page...
http://dreamland.anshechung.com/index.php?fct=BUY_L$
seems steep too! I just don't want to be 'screwed' i can understand people adding a charge but some of these look, and seem, a tad exessive to me.

Thanks again for all the help I have been offered. I'll see how things go for now.. and as all I want to do, for now, is just to add $Linden to my account I'll play the safe game. :)
I'm not 'poor' in SL.. I need to add funds that's all.

What rate did you pick?

The reason I suggested to go one below the lowest is that that ensures that your order will go through first:

A puts a buy order for L$20,000 at L$276/$1
B puts a buy order for L$10,000 at L$275/$1
C puts a buy order for L$20,000 at L$275/$1
D puts a buy order for L$5,000 at L$274/$1

In this example, D's buy order will get filled first since it's the lowest, then B's since it was placed first at L$275/$1, then C's and then finally on to A's at L$276/$1.

So if you currently put up a limit buy on the LindeX of L$274/$1 that 40-something million needs to be filled before it gets to yours, which could takes days if not weeks. If you simply put it up for L$273/$1 instead you jump to the front of the queue with a minimal difference in cost.

---

As far as other places to buy L$ go: please be extremely careful with those. If it turns out those sites are dealing in "frauduantly obtained L$" then LL will just take them all back from you, or up to 150% of what you bought with a good chance that your account will be suspended as well.

SLex is safe by massive reputation alone, Anshe's exchange is likely safe due to the fact that she has too much too loose to deal with wrongfully obtained L$.

That's not to say that "The Linden Store" you highlighted isn't safe, but unless you can find a handful of people that will vouch for the site I'd just stay clear of it. It's not worth risking your money over and having to call LL to explain that you're not involved in fraud and to please release your account.

Your help and input on this would be much appreciated by me......

Rorrim, it's unclear from your posts if you understand this, so forgive me if you already know- but did you know that if you use the 'Market Buy' option you will immediately get your lindens at the best rate currently available? You don't have to keep placing Limit Buy orders and waiting an unknown period if you need Lindens RIGHT NOW. LindeX might not always have the best exchange rate when buying Lindens, but unless you're talking about hundreds of USD worth of Lindens, it's usually only pennies worth of difference between rates for a given purchase.

While technically correct, I think this might be a little misleading. AFAIK, a Market buy will be filled at the rate of the best open sell order, but a Limit buy set at L$1 less than the best open buy order will fill in minutes at a rate about 3.5% better.

On the other hand, it's only 3.5%, so unless one is buying hundreds of US$s worth of L$s, it may not be worth even navigating the LindeX to set the order limit.

It's a percentage so the amount isn't going to make any difference, it'll still come down to 3.5% whether it's for $50 or $5,000.

I bought L$27,219 this week, a market buy would have gotten me L$1,000 less and it took all of 4 minutes to fill.

Add that up over a time-span of two years of buying L$ and that's quite a big difference for something that only takes a few extra seconds.

---

It's quite ironic that when it comes to buying L$ a "limit buy" is considered to be a waste of time while a "market sell" is throwing money away. If the difference truly didn't matter then everyone arguing for a market buy should be arguing for a market sell for the same reason.
