Just something I was curious about - when I came into SL, it was summertime, so everything I bought to wear was seasonal for that... then fall rolled around and I found myself picking up sweater tops, plaid skirts, and dressy-looking jackets. Now that winter is on its way (per my RL location, that is) I find myself looking with great interest at heavy sweaters, hats and mittens, fur-trimmer accessories, and anything with a snowflake on. My assumption was that since SL is a virtual environment, I'd just wear whatever I felt like, regardless of the season, but... well, there seem to be two unexpected factors at play: 1.) Availability. A lot of the "new stuff" is seasonal, which seems to sway my purchasing decisions. 2.) When it's cold outside and I've just come in from it, seeing my virtual avatar scantily clad gives me a sympathetic craving for toe socks and flannel. So now I'm curious--how many folks dress their avs according to the seasonal setting where they live, and if so (or if not) whyfor?

I'll certainly allow current weather to influence my choice of clothing. It's one way of getting inspiration for variety. But it's not the only factor, as the location I'm visiting is often a stronger factor.

me! me! me!
Just seems weird to wear open toed shoes and a dress in SL when it's 40 degrees outside. Of course that's a personal decision. Different strokes for different folks.

I let the location decide what I'm wearing. Not going to sit on a beach in my woolens, not going skating in beachwear. That sort of thing. That said I find my long velvet dresses pretty much work everywhere except on the beach, where they can be a little bit warm

It all depends. Sometimes I'll dress specific for someplace if I know I a going there in advance. Sometimes just what strikes my mood of the day, sometimes I actually dress based on what I'm wearing in RL. On cold snowy days here, I'll wear a turtleneck, jeans and boots inworld, then again sometimes on the coldest days I will put on something summery.

Oh I absolutely can relate to the OP. This past summer, which was REALLY hot there for a few weeks.. I'd park my swimsuit attired avvie on my tread water animation in the basin of my waterfall and just get cool! really lol, so funny! Now that it's getting cold outside I shiver unless I throw on 2 layers at least!

Different strokes for different folks. *lol* the footwear issue seems to be another part of this, yeah--I set aside my SL mules and slingbacks at the same time as my RL ones, without even realizing I'd done it. D'oh! ...A good pair of heels, though, that's all-season wear, far as I'm concerned.

I have so far: a scarf and matching hat, several pairs of gloves (desperate for some cute mittens... a matching set would be even better... pity there are no SL "friend who knit" I can work out a trade for things like that with. ...ice skates, snow shoes... All's I need now is a good snowball-thrower.

I dress with the occasion and season. I have been in turtle necks all week.

Does mean I have to spend a lot of time at the beach Sally gave me a nice woolly jumper the other day, but this looks a bit odd with sandals.

I try to dress for the SL location. But having said that, I DO notice that I'm wearing a lot more pixels now that the cold weather has arrived in RL.

I tend to dress for seasons even though it's still hot and sunny in RL for me. I long to wear cute winter clothes in RL, so I do it in SL.

Well, last night I was out shopping in SL and was dressed kind of summery. It felt weird, so I changed into a turtleneck and boots and felt better. LOL
I tend to dress the season as well.

I think that may be part of my motivation, too. Local temps will teeter between 70F-and-sunny or 50F-and-rainy until late Dec here... so at this point, I'd welcome a daily rain of fish, so long as it was consistent. ;P Until then, though... my SL experience will be wintery... until I get tired of it, I s'pect. One good thing about a VR environment--bikini weather can happen wheneeeever you need it to.

I didn't think I would dress in SL for RL seasons, but I'm finding I do it often. I still sometimes wear little strapless dresses, but more often I'm wearing nice warm sweaters and jeans, or wearing the cute strapless dress with my white fur bolero, which actually adds a touch of class as well as warmth. I've been shopping for SL christmas decorations and decorating my land and home, and it just "feels" strange to be doing that while wearing summery clothes.

I picked up the ice skates & roller skates at Abranimations, too, but haven't used them yet. I was worried it might be considered griefing to knock somebody over. Would it?

I'm guessing you mean the snowball and waterballoon throwers, not the skates? If so, I've only ever used them with friends who also had them, so wouldn't know who it works with people you don't know. But if throwing a snowball is considered griefing, there's something seriously wrong with this world.

From: Strangel Bade So now I'm curious--how many folks dress their avs according to the seasonal setting where they live, and if so (or if not) whyfor? My clothing is always affected by season. I've been wearing at least long-sleeves now, but usually sweaters. I spent all summer in sandals, but am wearing sneakers (or skates) now. I've also been known to change depending on sim, too - I'm not gonna bundle up to go to Avaria,b ut I will for NCC. Mari
