Never known this (so thought I'd ask) :)

Say there is a fish, a dog, or something else moving about.

And I'm standing next to some people.

If I click on and highlight this moving item (which does not belong to me by the way)
as I'm just seeing who made it, who owns it, perhaps the shop it came from........

As I say, when I do click on it, it's highlighted and it stops all it's animations.

Do other people see this, or (to them) is it still moving about as normal?

I've often wondered that myself. I'm pretty sure it continues to move or rotate normally for other people but I'll have to conduct a little experiment to find out for sure.

Just tried it with a pair of 7Seas fish, one worn on each avatar. Apparently, each fish stopped its rotation for both viewers when either edited or inspected. Huh.

Sooooo, as far as worn rotation scripts go, it looks like they *do* stop moving for other people too. I'll have to dig up other stuff and mess with it some more.

Next, tried a pet, same thing. The pet was set to roam and yet another avatar was able to right-click and interrupt its movement.

Third, tried a vehicle, and same deal. The owner was unable to make the vehicle move at all until the inspector was finished.

Is this because it's multiple viewers? I'm kind of surprised.

it's a great way to win a car race, have a friend group-select all the cars and deselect yours.

whatever you "right-click" totally stops moving.
If you do that to someone's sailboat. prepare to be shouted at, and if its during a race, you'll most likely get ejected and banned.

Actually I'm supprised.

I thought perhaps the item stopped just for your local editing/viewing purposes.

I did not realise that if you selected something "In-World" then that item actually really stopped for everyone.

And how would anyone know who has done the selecting? In 3rd place, for instance, select and stop the leader until the 2nd one is passed it, the new leader gets the blame and is ejected, and you're in front ..... until someone does the same to you :)

You could call foul if any vehicle stops moving.

Presumably this effect does not apply to avatars or griefers would have been onto it a long time ago.

Interesting......

So you are sitting in a car, someone selects it and what...... the car stops but you don't?

Something changes though doesn't it, when your Avatar sits onto something, does it not become part of you?

Hence the 200 prim boats which you can sale as (something like) the prims become part of your Avatars prims when seated/worn.

Or something like that.

I saw a small walking penguin in store (carrying an advert board around) and he kept moving even though I selected him.

So, it's obviously not as simple as EVERYTHING stops when selected. Some things do, some things don't.

I'm assuming if the "stand up" button is available, you're sitting and subjected to right-clicking and freeze.

If you're wearing the boat on your head, then no.

I do remember buying an A-10 a while back that had the cockpit seat as an attachment (pelvis) that had to be worn before you could fly it, so essentially it was a vehicle *and* an attachment(?). That experiment will have to wait for another day and after some more alcohol.

I think it depends if the other person is sitting on the object or not.

If they are and it's moving, it only stops for you, I believe. It would be weird if I could stop a vehicle someone was operating just by right-click.

If they aren't, then everyone sees it stop. This was proven the other night when I was on as Vishnu, and an acquaintance was demonstrating a small airship he had built. I right-clicked it and it halted in place, and the owner said I was impeding his airship.

I said, hey, I *am* a Hindu god. :D

edit: of course, something worn as an attachment can't be stopped that way.

you can actually stop a vehicle in its tracks, for you and everyone, by right clicking it which is why people will get really pissed at you for doing it at something like a sailing race. you could potentially tell who it was by looking at the selection beam and where it was coming from but even just a quick stop would probably be enough to screw up a race as they'd have to pick up speed again. it is a handy trick though if someone decides to roll around in a vehicle in a sandbox or tries to grief you with a vehicle.

So........

Either way, we are definalty saying 100% that if we select something and "WE" see it as stopped, then it "HAS" stopped for everyone?

As I say, I have right clicked on some moving items and the carry of moving. So I'm not sure what makes some things stop and other things carry on when someone selects them to take a look (for example) at the maker of the item, or how many prims it is.

I have some scripted animals that do not stop at all when right clicked as well.

Would this apply to me? I'm dancing, either just one of my singles dances or on a couples dance, and I then edit my hair or skirt. In my viewer, I freeze, stop dancing -- what do others see in this case?

Selecting something physical basically makes it "static" to the physics engine, whether avatars are sitting on it or not. And it's technically impossible to tell who's selecting it :/

I show that the dancer freezes, but the onlooker sees the animation normally, including cycling to the next dance.

That's because animations play in the viewer, not on the server (I believe). It's not the same as a "moving" object.

I'm not positive but I think it will stop for everyone if it's a physical object someone is sitting on and also for objects using llTargetOmega to rotate.

traget omega items continue rotating for other viewers (or at least the did last time I checked) physical items don't (not sure if setting block grab will prevent freezing for all physical items)

Void is right, my bad. llTargetOmega doesn't stop rotating for anyone else except the person selecting the prim.
