Well as someone who's only been here 3 months, I've still formed an opinion about Mainland. Some might be similar and some might not be.

I like the older areas which are themed. For example Miramare, Lusk, various Linden projects such as the ferry boat between continents. It's interesting to see roads in some places, but it looks like the Lindens abandoned this idea despite having reserved roadbeds all over.

Mainland as a whole is a trashy, slummy heap of adfarms, spinning sale signs, and barrier tapes. I find barrier tapes in extremely poor taste and a pain in the ass if I'm trying to get to something elsewhere in the region. I turned down a lot of land because it was next to a tapehead.

My gallery is in Gaeta, which no one seems to take notice of. It has the usual muck as well but not as bad as the older continents. I guess it hasnt had time for many generations of owners or been as chopped up. That new continent to the north is following trashier mainland practises sooner.

I actually feel more at home on the rental I have on a private sim, but I've been told if I had more than 512sqm that my opinion would change with enough buffering away from the property border and more prims to work with.

The private sim seems more stable, while things keep changing around my Mainland. It sort of doesnt matter then where you settle since the landscape can change overnight - unless you build one around your place.

And those grid attacks like last night occur on Mainland exponentially more than on a private sim.

If I had the money I would undoubtedly have my own sim to play with and experiment.
