Feldspar speaks the truth, but was that a group or conference IM?

I've just seen it done on person-to-person IMs (which I guess is the same as a conference IM, even though there are just two people). I have not seen it done in a Group IM, so I don't know.

Based on what I know about how it works, though, it probably works in Group IMs, too. But I have not looked at some of the details, so I don't really know.

You need a modified version of the Viewer, or an external side program, in order to send fake IMs.

(Someone else suggested that I'm referring to IMs from objects, which would come out in the Chat window. That's not what I mean. I'm talking about IMs that appear in the Communicate window in an IM tab with someone's name on it. The tab gets the right name, but the message inside there can be made to say anything.)

I think this bug has been around in SL for years, but I only saw it demonstrated recently.

The message was the same color as the other. The thing that makes me think that it was not random or an error is that there were 3 different entries and someone had a spy chat bug on me last week. I don't know why, I am really not that interesting!

losers use it to fap to what they think is cyber-sex

also, if you have anyone in SL that has a vendetta on you, it could be to dig up dirt.

I don't believe you. Show me.

I've heard of this but not seen it. I think the deal is that you use a hacked viewer (or maybe some libsl) to stuff a \n into the text, followed by text of what's supposed to look like somebody else saying something. Tried to repro this on the stock viewer once but it took \n as two characters.

If you see this happening, just look at the line before the suspicious one to see who's doing it.\nLindal Kidd: oh.. ok. that makes sense. TY, Sindy - you da best!

What it is is a certain "type" of IM, for some reason the LL viewer doesn't include the name of the person when it shows it to you for that type. They are aware of it......... Just look in the tab to be sure.
