Because we haven't had one in a while. Those new mainland sims still sit there with the purple paint on them...no new full sims to auction. Mainland prices are on the move upward again. No word from Jack Linden on anything land related in a good while. Not sure if people are still losing land to landbots by accident and not getting the land back. Have not seen any postings regarding that in a while. Maybe this is why there has not been a land thread in a while. Other than prices creeping up, there's no new news. Which is kind of news itself. Especially if you are bored.

It's just land, like the SL economy, is dirt and no-one really has the money to invest in it. The imposition of VAT, preceded by the gambling ban, added to by the recent woes of SL has demolished the 'well planned SL economic model' and made it a game. Just like any other on-line pastime. Opps, I'm being cynical again!! Must be bored.

My observation has been people are investing in larger amounts of land. This would explain why few 1/4 region plots are available under 8.5 - however still a far cry from the lowest amount approximately about 10.5 (for 16,384sqm) in June.

The L Auctions amaze me. Really, is a 512 in Ironjaw worth 8k? It obviously is to someone... I have the bad feeling that the people bidding on these plots don't know that you can search for land inworld and find better bargains.

I think that existing Premiums (the only possible buyers) are a combination of 1) at the tier level they feel comfortable with right now 2) uncomfortable with the way SL has been so extra-borky lately 3) wondering if the grid can support the numbers of active users required to yield a percentage of premiums that would keep the land show on the road 4) wondering if they will be stuck with increased tier rates in the next few months
Like much of RL spending/investment, it's a confidence thing.

From: Chris Norse Elex and Chaos were banned? And Jumpy has been MIA for months. Well, you do the math...one day they are posting dozens of times a day and starting threads and then suddenly they are gone. Now I guess we have to create our own drama and call random people trolls. I'm just not in the mood for jokes tonight.

I like your land threads Ray; I've missed your trenchant analysis lately...especially since I'm feeling unsure about my (would have freaked me out a few months ago) tier.
How many regions are left to auction? Is there a way to tell?
And is it easy to make more continents?

And is it easy to make more continents? Thanks, Dnali. I enjoyed talking land once upon a time when I was cheerier, my tier was lower and bots were scarcer. Last I heard they had named 31 sims and had them ready for auction. My guess is they will drop them when the base reaches somewhere between L$7.8 and L$8.0 a meter (this is only a guess and not an attempt to affect or control the market in any way ) I'm not going to bother to go online and check if it's more than 31 now because I crash every time I TP. But you can start at one of these and fly around and scout it out yourself: Kiracofe, Ciraco, Windlesham, Denshore, Minacci, Gioacchini, Nina, Nizells, Mordreds Crossing, Silacci, Compton, Silwood, Vidaca, Nikach, Wapole, Forthfield, Riback, Dibacco, Black Lion, Ardingly, Highcastle, Mists Edge, Circus, Fountainhead, Fyrebird, Starship, Tarner, Elmore, Shipstone, Steine Gardens, Starnbrough. As far as more continents, they are pretty easy for the granite chiselers of LL to make once they have the servers. Just doubt we will have another continent dropped anytime soon since the once-booming economy went bust after the 1-2 punch of casino-VAT hit and fewer new people are coming online and even fewer are staying long enough to get into land ownership.

Very true. Considering that again, SL had a scant net of about 500 new premium members, I cannot imagine them dropping one sim much less 31.

I have to admit Ray, I got used to reading your land threads...Though these land threads are usually just rehashing same topics on weekly basis. And advertising for the A-List Sim Owners you recommend. But for the new accounts is good! Keep it up!

Thanks Ray, I'll go take a look.
Even though the rise in premium members may be small, the numbers of folks on line is increasing. So the rental market may get stronger.
Time will tell.

Just to echo Dnali, I like your land talk threads Raymond. Despite the rehash, there is always a nugget or three to take away.
What i have noticed: every time i log in, i do the same search on land. For the last few weeks, that search turns up the exact same plots. What happened to the churn? Is all the churn taking place at the landbot level? Are new premium sign ups that anemic? In short, has the mainland market stalled out? What is going on?

For two months, new premium signups have been abysmally low. And Linden Lab doesn't seem to care, because island orders must be pretty healthy. I guess they prefer to have only 295 in tier from island owners, versus however much more from new premiums.

Yes I've noticed this, it's cheaper to find lots of smaller plots next to each other than go looking for an 8192. Prices for larger plots are certainly on the rise, I could do with another 16,384.
