Also, I've found that many of the dragons who hang out there are more than willing to show off their scales for those who want to look at one in action or to answer questions if you have any.

...unless you already have an adult dragon/wyrvern. Once you've got one, you don't have to wait for hatchings. And you can get a Tiamat.. :)

I was never able to get an adult dragon. Then SL ate my baby dragon and my wyrmling. Ah memories.

free dragons

OK, this may have already been mentioned by someone (sorry; I did not read all the entries in this thread), but in case it hasn't, there's an island called Dragon....something. I'll find it when I am inworld tonight (or I am sure SOMEONE whose been around much longer than I knows the name).

And ALL the dragon-y stuff on the island is FREE. Big dragons, little dragons...fire-breathing dragons....dragon fountains, dragon t-shirts...you get the idea. So for folks who just want to test the waters, kick the tires (do not, under any circumstances, kick the big dragon's feet, because that would be...bad)...maybe this would be a good place to start?

Now mind you, I've not *opened* any of the boxes I acquired last night (heh - this morning), so I cannot report where the dragons rank on the ease-of-use or niftiness scales.

And note to were-animals who like to drive motorcycles at breakneck speeds: there are also some vehicles. Large and tiny. :D

Really?? I think my motorcycle is still smoking after last night's wreck...getting the pieces out of that wall was a challange.

That is what you get from floating above your motorcycle instead of sitting on it.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I was never able to get an adult dragon..

The 20th of this month is the spring equinox. It doesn't cost anything to try again for an adult, except some L$ that gets returned to you right away.

The system now is a bit saner than it was when I got my first adult dragon. Back then, they crammed 100 people onto a sim, waited for Daryth to shout "go!" and all clicked Buy at once. Now it's more of a real lottery. Just show up a few days in advance and get a HUD to register. When they do they drawing, the HUD will tell you if you got in..

If you do get one, or go back and get another hatchling/wyrmling, make sure to make a copy of the egg!! If SL eats one copy, just rehatch the egg.

Oh, and a slightly off-topic post, but a heartfelt one...

Psyra - thank you! You, Flea, and all the other wonderful contributors to the efforts in the Avaria sims...including the Grendel's store.

The variety of AV's, and various accessories, that are available is enormous - almost overwhelmingly so, to someone who's never been there before...

But, even with the quality that is put into the AV's, there seems to be a purpose of playfulness there that's not too common in SL - the prices set are low, and everything seems to be mod-able...it's as if you folks actually want people to have fun first!!

The argument always come up as "Well, it's only a few bucks...if you can't afford that, why are you playing SL?"
For some of us, $10US is a decent chunk of what we budget for SL in a given month...having every bit of that go to one AV that may not be easily used everywhere in SL is sometimes a hard decision.

The option to buy 5, 6, 10 or more AV's with that same amount of money, opens up the possibility of expanding one's play.

Not to mention the detail and imagination that have gone into the rest of the sims...airships and caverns and on and on and on...(I accidentally found the aquarium at the end of one of the botannicals the other day...was exciting!)

I'd like to think that all of you have helped generate actual play in SL.

So, to finish up an off-topic post, Thank you again Psyra...I'll keep returning and bringing people with me.

Thank-you, re: 20th of month information. :)

I had many copies. SL had actually eaten all of my inventory except some of the stuff in the primary folders.

Thank-you. T-Rex does cost a bunch. The smallest dino, though, is under 1K, maybe under 500L.

Talarus talked a little about that earlier in this thread, back on page 2.. See: /327/29/210406/2.html#post1678418

edit: unless you mean normal vendors.. Dunno.. Probably because once you get used to the way they do things, it's really pretty cool...

Thanks for the links. I can understand where they are coming from and it does make it all seem much more interesting for RP,but from a business perspective they have to be losing a lot of sales selling them like that.(Impluse buys, people who don't want to wait and go to others instead..)

After thinking about it a bit,I guess if your sole reason for creating was NOT about money, the above wouldn't matter to you. And by the quality of their dragons, you can tell there is a lot of love put into making them. So I think I get it now.:)

On the other hand, the 'prestige' element pretty much guarantees something like $4000 US income over the course of a year, plus all of the purchases people make for other avatars (including smaller dragons) and shoulder pets, as well as the full-sized dragons past winners are able to buy anytime.

The Isle of Wyrms looks like it's over a dozen sims now. Even at the old US$195/month tier, that's almost US$30,000 a year.. No idea how much of that Daryth pays, though.

I'd be interested to know how many full-sized dragons she'd sell without the Limited Edition setup. They're amazing and gorgeous, but they're not cheap and they're a bit unwieldy unless you're in open spaces. The current setup averages out to 23 and a fraction per month...it might actually be less if they were available all the time.

Talarus, Grey, other dragons...

I liked the Grendel's Children dragons, but wanted to see what else was out there. I'd heard of Isle of Wyrms, so I tp'd there one day.

I've never seen a place where it was so hard to find something to actually buy. I saw a number of things like accessories, but no actual dragon avs.

There also seemed to be some sort of roleplay/initiation ceremony/whatever involved in getting a Wyrms dragon, but just what it was was very unclear.

I finally gave up in frustration and left. Grendel's got my business.

But this isn't an angry rant...I'm sure I must have missed something, or misunderstood something. Please...enlighten me.

*shrug* Depends on where you teleported to. If you teleported to Cathedral, you go inside the big, um, Cathedral, and the eggs are very prominently displayed on the back wall. Yes, the eggs are the vendors, after all, where do you think Dragons come from? :)

If you teleported to Limbo, there's a huge marketplace all along the west side. Kinda hard to miss.

If you teleported elsewhere, you have to remember that the Isle is made up of 13 sims and is part of the fantasy continent. The intent is to have a place to live, work, and play for our kind, and others to come experience. It's not 13 sims' worth of stores. :)

The only way you could have not found something to buy is if you TPed in, looked around you for 5 minutes, expecting to be plopped down in front of a vendor and, not immediately seeing that, TPed out. That is just not our style. The Isle is a place to explore, and stores are only a part of that.

If you had any questions, we have a fairly large staff of volunteers who are almost always around the Isle to answer your questions. We have tons of information kiosks all around the Isle, we have forums, we have a Wiki. Not sure why you had trouble getting more information. Perhaps a bit of persistence would have cleared things up? :)

That's cool you got a Dragon av at Grendel's. You're still just as welcome to come spend time with the community on our Isle. We don't discriminate. :)

From the numbers, she would probably sell maybe 20-25% more, but as has been described, it isn't about the money. She could easily go down to a couple sims and live off of her creations, but instead puts the money back into the community. She is a consummate artist, and her style and business methods reflect that.

With the exception of Hatchie Haven (owned by Apollo and Aradia Aridian), Eragon (owned by Ryu Darragh and Kath McGill), and Imladris/Eldamar (owned by Jesmaine Tzara), the other 9 sims that make up the Isle are all owned by Daryth.

Perhaps I was a bit rushed, Tal...I was shopping for Christmas presents at the time, and not much interested in a role play shopping "experience". I think it was the Cathedral, but I'm not sure. I used the TP point that Search handed me...

There was a crowd of dragons and people outside, but they all seemed wrapped up in whatever they were talking about, and not inclined to help strangers. I don't recall seeing an info kiosk. The things I was able to access...signs, ads, a couple of notes that things gave me...were written for someone with about two levels more experience with IoW, its history and customs. They were pretty opaque to a newcomer, in the same way that a conversation between two experienced residents can go right over the head of a newbie.

I was definitely there for more than 5 minutes. But sheesh, who'd've thought dragons came from eggs? I thought drakelets came from eggs, and dragons came from vendors on the wall. :D
