Is this just an American phrase?

Treat other people nice, preferably as nice as you'd like them to treat you.

Noticed this on the incident report:

Violation: Community Standards: Rules of Conduct
Description: Golden Rule

What the heck is this Golden Rule?

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

per the (Christian) Bible

not

"Do unto others then run."

per a mall T shirt

Do unto others before they do it unto you!

According to this page, the *term* "Golden Rule" first appeared in the mid-1800s in England and the US:

I just don't like you. :)
Whereas I only feel contempt for your ignorance.

Edit: actually your quote wasn't close enough to the original quote, it's more a lazy man's summary. :P I was looking for something closer to the actual wording. Better luck next time!
Lazy man's summary? You insult a better man than I.
From: Oxford Dictionary of Quotations
Do as you would be done by
First recorded in these precise words in a letter from the Earl of Chesterfield to his son in 1747, though less pithy versions go back at least three centuries and originate in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount: 'all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets' (Matthew, 7: 12).
I prefer the succinct poetry of Chesterfield's rendition to the unreliable and clumsy King James translation. :p

Pep (But if I had offered the Hebrew original it would probably have sounded even more smartass, eh? )

PS I'll actually offer a third option: you read my post but you didn't understand it. :D

I vote: Aramaic! (even if it has to be translated)

It's all Greek to me.

I forum I used to frequent listed the classic rules of netiquette, of which rule 7 is "Keep flame-wars under control.". Over time "Check rule 7" got to be a popular way of pointing out someone's misbehaviour. In the end, when the forum died, it was recreated under the name "Rule 7".

People still flame, troll and generally act up.

Hmmm. Maybe the golden rule should be Rule 34 then. Or does that only apply in Zindra?

I should add that breaching this Golden Rule carried a one day suspension.

Treat others as You would wish to be treated.
Me? treat me to a pair of Stiletto Moodys.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

You'd prefer to reference a book exhibiting "the morals of a whore and the manners of a dancing-master"? :D

OK, you just crossed into the Twilight Zone

someones memory of middle school science is a bit rusty. might help if you checked a diagram of the parts of a flower.... and what the stamen and pistil actually do.

PS welcome to the twilight zone =)

ETA:
I'll guess it's one of the big 6. meaning, you remove others ability to enjoy of SL, the g-team removes yours.

Nope, I already know what they are and what they do thanks, I don't need my lessons from you.

Never heard anyone call one of those parts a penis though, always a stamen, despite what it does - ever heard of anyone calling a pistil a vagina either? Neither have I.
People use the flower euphemisms when referring to human genitalia but not the other way around.

When you also put that into the frame of context with people getting banned in SL for a 1 day period, my comment was aimed clearly at human parts. Flowers do not get banned in SL for having male and/or female parts showing. So when Argent went down that road, I was clearly WTF.

Got any questions?

PS. The level of nit-picking going on around here is quite unbelievable, it is getting so that some of us can hardly make a comment without it being dissected and scrutinised for flaws.

Sounds like the key to success and enjoyment in sl to me!
