Timetable for ID Verification

Has LL released any kind of a timetable for ID verification? For a lot of land owners this is going to mean considerable changes, in my case shifting tenants around from a mature plot to a verified area and possibly getting another island. I fear that LL will continue with these "it's coming blogs" and for months and then suddenly they will switch it on, one day.

For obvious reasons, I would prefer they gave a target date for rolling it out and then give us warnings if they need to push that back. That way I can purchase more land in a timely way. Instead I have to guess. If I buy it now, it could be months before I need to change things around and I'll be wasting $300 a month too soon. If I wait, I fear I will have to take drastic measures quickly, possibly returning the items of some of my tenants or declaring my whole island to require ID verification, severely restricting access to what is mostly PG items.

LL, do the right thing, don't simply turn it on one day and post something on the blog. Pick a date in the future and try to stick to it.

Very valid point and question. Just flipping a switch would be chaotic.

LL would never make a sweeping change to the service without at least some notice........, would they?.......... :D

Yes I am also interested in the time frame on this -- I would think everyone would be, because most of us have some decisions to take and/or adjustments to make relating to the new regime when it is fully rolled out.

Yeah, I know. It's too much to ask from LL.

Still, I'm hoping that maybe somehow that they might figure out that they could actually do this on a timetable. I doubt anyone is holding a gun to their head over this in the same way they might have gotten pressure about gambling and VAT. I really think they could pick a future date to roll it out and that should be sufficient.

But they will probably just flip a switch and say, "It's on!" And if I happen to be traveling that week, well, I'm probably just f*cked then.

Yeah, all joking aside, I asked earlier about a way to verify now. Seems only Conceriage accoutns have teh option to test everything.

My hope is LL grows enough of a brain to put in the verification a LEAST 2 weeks before they put in the land options and requirements in-world. That would let people get through the IDV process and iron out all the bugs (which you know there are going to be some doosies).

I hope for that.....I won't hold my breath.

hmm I guess it will be like this:

on a friday morning (peak times of the weak about to start) lindens decide to introduce it, no prewarnings given.
The system will lag, not work for everyone.

Lindens will search through the land and ban/kill everyone who hasnt set his land to restricted but should, 5 minutes after the post was made.

is that enough for a schedule?

Sounds about right, but I'll think they'll ban/kill/warn all those who missed making the settings 5 minutes after starting the program, but 17 hours befor posting a blog about needing to. They'll also use a totally inadequately programed "Nanny" search program to do the warnings/bans automatically.

They'll later post a blog saying that they regret that *SOME* of us were surprised by the chaos.

"Some" is a fabulous new-speak. It implies that just a very few were inconvenienced.

right, better not to work in the early morning. a program should be suitable to deal with it.

In addition the rules will be totally unclear. some people will get problems for making a sim about Essex (City in the UK), other will "be asked" (ok this time I just ban you permanently, next time I come home to you and blow up your house) to set their beach to "restricted" since swimsuits could offend children who aren't supposed to be on the grid anyway.

I forgot on thing: The post will be named: "The day of trust is there!" and "What all residents asked for is finally there: IDV".

No, definitely not. The Lindens won't bother to search through anything.

They will wait until they start receiving AR reports from anyone with a score to settle, or just from griefers, and then they will ban all the ARd accounts without further investigation.

(They do know that they will get many specious ARs, and they have said nothing about how they will deal with the problem - most likely because they have no idea.)

One of the things I am curious about is to find out what percentage of users will even bother to ID?. If the Payment Info on File/No Payment Info on File ratio is a gauge, then the IDV numbers will be extremely low. Which of course begs the question: if the voluntary IDV numbers are low, and LL has already made allusions that forced IDV might be on the table, if they go that route, will this all make SL drop dramatically in population? They wouldn't do that, right? Right? ;-)

As for timetables, I haven't heard of anything definitive.

Sounds frighteningly familiar doesn't it..for anyone who doesn't sympathise with those caught up in the VAT debacle..prepare to get sympathetic!!

The ID verification scheme is going to happen so when it happens probably doesn't mean anything. It is going to happen and when it does I hope all business people in SL are ready for it. It's a nice no win situation for all.

If you, as a shop owner or an estate owner, decide to make your places as "only age verified" then you will most likely lose 95% of your business. Many of us "verified residents" will not be handing over our personal information to some sleazy company so they can sell it.

On the other hand you can not make your land age verified and face abuse reports from SL busybodies.

Make your choice.

There was a story about the company they're using on TV the other night. Some of their computers got hacked... A local adult site also used them until recently.

I just had a thought that no one else seems to have picked up on yet.

I am right, am I not, that the Linden Labs approach to this, is that this is a good move and that everyone should be Age Verified?

The argument being if your not AV, your going to lose out, by being restricted to PG areas?

And this is a bad thing, because you won't get to see gratuitous sex and extreme violence?

I would have thought Linden Labs would have set up a system that made it more difficult to view 'restrictive content', rather than make it easier?

So Linden Labs are inadvertently forcing gratuitous sex and extreme violence on to the player base, interesting really!

I have no issues with verifying things... but I've looked in the 'my account' and don't see any link for verifying??? Is this because I used my visa card when I signed up or what??

Verification is currently only available to congierge-level residents. It's being tested.

Essex is a County, (where i live) not a city, but i agree about the rest of your post.

Perhaps my verification information, if i choose to submit it (which i dont actually) might be considered broadly offensive if i mention my home address.... nice thought... along with Middlesex, Sussex..
