QUESTION: What is a forum buddy?

When you look at someone's profile here on the forums, you have the option to add them to your buddy list or your ignore list. I know what the ignore list does -- you see that the person posted, but the text of it is hidden -- but what exactly does forum-buddying do?

Does it just highlight their posts in threads?
Does it highlight threads, so I can tell they posted there?
Does it add something to my User CP page, where I normally see my subscribed threads?

And does it tell the person, so they know I'm forum stalking them?

But most important of all: If I forum-buddy Ann, do I get to be first in line for pie? :p

Buddy List
This is a list of users you wish to identify as your Buddies. To add a user to your buddy list, go to your User CP and in the left Nav Panel under Miscellaneous, select [Buddy / Ignore Lists], type the username you wish to add in the Buddy List blank and click [Update Buddy List]
Alternately, you can click on their username in any post and, from the drop-down menu, click the [Add username to Your Buddy List] link.

Buddies will appear in the Users online list with a + sign following their username.

The buddy list is the opposite of the enemies list.

You may view the enemies list at this url: http://elfurl.com/ovlzc .

Wow, is that really all it does? What's the point of that?!

Ray, I'm buddying you so I can see if it makes your posts all rainbow sparkly from now on.

Just checked... apparently on our forums it doesn't even put the + next to user's names in the member list.

Little piece of trivia: When browsing the forum member list, Ray is on page 286... of the R's!
That's a lots of people!

Anyway, it doesn't mark the person's messages in any way that I can see, nor does it compile the person's messages into a nice little collection for you (although anyone can easily do that from a person's profile).

The only semi-useful thing I found was "Open Buddy List" under the Quick Links menu, which tells me which buddies are online, and allows me to send a PM to multiple people at once.

I can certainly see benefits in being able to send dirty messages to Ray and Brenda simultaneously, so I guess I'll be happy with that. Time to go populate my buddy list. :D

My ultimate goal is to make it to page 285.

On some vBulletin forums (it doesn't seem to be enabled here), you can also restrict things like PMs to only be from your buddies.

It allows forum members to form gangs, stake out and defend territory in run-on threads and rough up noobies for their pie.

There, now THAT would be a useful function!

I think if we "misplace" about 14 'Rav...' people, that could happen.

If you are the one responsible for all the topless avatars on the Grid, all I can say is thank you!

As far as what's a sl forum, the answer would be a place thats suppose to be where you communicate with others but are quickly censored by it's mods. That's the definition of a sl forums.

Considering she makes shapes...I'd say that is an accurate assesment.

Forum Buddy (TM) - $19.99, IM me in world for one
09-01-2007 14:01
It's a small virtual device for keeping thread URLs in and other essential Forum equipment (bottles of cynicism, jars of mysogyny, a ready supply of back-biting sarcasm - you know, the stuff we all need to function on a day-to-day basis on the forums). It straps round your avatars waist, a bit like a tool belt crossed with a fanny-pack, but with more pockets.

The Premium version comes with a "Bon Mots" holster included.

Technically then yours is a Pie Buddy. Those have proven quite popular recently.

I made a pie today, but I can't share it as it is real life pie, not forum pie. Sorry.

With "quick release" technology for those days when Strife is just a checkbox away from a thread lock?
