How does SL gauge age of consent. Most countries its 16 (varies 14-1 If a chacter is 17 and romantically involved with another 17-18 is this OK. It is where I am from. I'm totally against any child exploitation. I just want to be sure of the rules. They are vague.

I would think since LL is trying to recognise International laws concerning age of consent..the bar would be sat at the highest age of consent?..is that *USA? at 18 years of age?

Maingrid minimum age is 18, fullstop. no arguments, no exeptions. Anyone found below 18 that is banned. Proving it and to police it is sometimes difficult. But thats the rule at least.

Users must be over 18 to use the main grid. Users under 18 belong on the teen grid. Users on the main grid are allowed to have child avatars (I assume that's what you mean by saying "characters", but child avatars are not supposed to engage in adult activities. That is a zero tolerance position that LL does enforces by strongly encouraging other residents to inform on the behavior. So it boils down to the user *and* the character must be 18 to engage in sex play without running afoul of the ToS.

so basically..if you have a child avatar...and wanna get it on...call them a little person in your profile and keep all rp to private messages.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which every country in the world bar the USA and Somalia has signed, defines a child as a person under the age of eighteen. Technically the CRC is a legally binding instrument which can be used to guide the judgment of any court in a signatory country.

Since the USA also defines a child with this age limit, I would suggest eighteen years as the most reliable age of maturity - even if both you and the child are Somali.

Best be on the safe side.

Basically all child size avies saying refring words like Mommy Daddy etc regardless of IM (private messages)or not ( thats if the person on the other side of the IM (private messages)is reporting it) is still not allowed on sl.

In the US, the age to consent to sex varies by state, from 14 to 18. It seems 16 is the most common. Also the age of sexual consent varies nation by nation.

Thank goodness the US hasn't signed the CRC, at least our elected representatives are doing a little to protect us from this one world government crap. Now if they only had the guts to withdraw from the UN and all other treaty organizations.

Sadly, I don't think any of this stuff has been made clear in the TOS or the CS pages. I'm by no means against SAP, I admit it, but I'm also one to follow the rules so I keep all of my RP as legal as possible.

The blog entries on the subject have since drifted away from common knowledge for many. These past few weeks I've noticed a pile of noobie kids running around that have both claimed to have engaged and others that have actually invited me to places to "check this out". I had to give one the riot act for over an hour including links to the blog and Youtube videos of the sensationalist German news reports.

I myself have been personally berated by a Linden for my choice of humor by wearing a certain shirt for Valentine's day. He was civil and gave me a personal warning in IM. I changed out to a kinder (and somewhat cuter) tank top and went about the rest of my day without any more trouble. But it proves the point to me that LL will still be strict about their enforcement of the SAP rule.

That's all fine and dandy for people like me who joined almost immediately after seeing the whole mess on the news but what do we do about those who are joining now? I don't want to change my role in SL nor do I want to be the AR honeypot for these people. I'm too tolerant to even want to AR them so soon in their SL experience. Especially considering, I'm no different from them, it's just that I have been more informed and have the self-control to abide to the rules given to me.

Maybe a JIRA can be created for an update of the TOS or CS pages?

No, what is not allowed is HAVING SEX with or as a child avatar. It's perfectly legal and allowed for my SL daughter, Reisuki, to refer to Ceera as "Mommy", as long as that isn't in a sexual context. Heck, that in itself says NOTHIING about relative age. My Player is well over 18, and you know what? I still refer to my parents as "Mom and Dad".
