Why is it unfair that people who were willing to invest earlier in a class 4 sim should not get a break on the tier cost? Maybe all the mainland sims should have their tier raised too.

I mean if I bought a 1987 car I wouldn't expect to pay the price of a 2008 brand new one.

Cars depreciate in value, sims don't. They don't wear out, or break down. That's a very flawed comparison. I agree, all Class 4s should be eliminated. Give everyone a Class 5, at 295 a month tier, and then it's all even steven.

Two issues.

One, you'll get to be the one who is going to tell nine full regions of Caledon residents that in reward for being an early supporter and suffering through 2006 in good cheer, in support of the realm and our service provider... making the grid a compelling place for the millions that followed... their tier is suddenly going to have to go up!

Eyah. Right. I'll be in the back while you do this, passing out pitchforks and torches.

Incidentally, I've got a fairly high rate of stick-aroundness in my old regions. So unless people are desperate to steal Caledon residents away, they are having roughly zero percent impact on the rental market - they pretty much aren't going anywhere anytime soon. So if anyone sees those old Caledon regions as a threat, it's imaginary, unless you feel entitled to all the residents there.

Second issue - so... what happens to all the class 4 hardware?

Landfill? Computer-henge? Ornamental fountains with bladeservers spouting little trickles? Pesky little issue, but ah... we did manage to pay for those things.

And sooner or later there will be another type of server hardware. Can't just buy the same hardware forever!

What then, dump the class 5's to be on class 6's and adjust tier accordingly?

Yes, this is a tetchy point with Des :) I really hate seeing early adopters get burned for having guts and vision - residents and myself included.

Most sims just depreciated in value by about $675 US just over a month ago.

If you total up all the Class 4 and grandfathered Class 5 sims, would they even add up to the number of sims added this year? You're complaining about a very small portion of the market. If they really had that much of an advantage, why does everyone keep buying sims by the truckload?
