could care less
I too am on the mainland, same spot for over a year and I am always pulling down a build and putting up something else hehe right now I have my store, club, house I am working on, and arcade that could change within a month I have seen a lot come and go, and do not care what other put as long as it stays on their land (and speaking of such, got prims overlapping my land, been there for close to a year and still nothing being done about it) and yes I have AR;d it, numerous times ![]() _____________________

Depends on whether I'd like their music or not ...
If I didnt, I'd do nothing, since it'll be gone next month anyway. _____________________

I live on the mainland as well and there is a club adjacent to the land we rent...BUT...we enjoy living in the sky so what happens 600m below us doesn't bother us a bit.

Had it happen quite a few times.
1) Talk with the owner. Get to know your neighbor. 2) Work with your neighbor. See if things that lag/bother you about the club can be changed/moved to help preserve your idea of the area. Same goes with you. The club owner may wish to see something different in your build(s). 3) If all else fails, test nukes on your land during events *smiles sweetly* (This only applies for pig-headed club owners with the "F off! I'm here and I don't care if my 50 billion swirling lights lag you or not!" type of owners.) Most clubs are run decent and don't want lag either. Bad for customers. However, every once in a while you run into the idiot that thinks spinning/flashing lights and particle streamers that lag the sim to heck and back look "cool" and are what bring in people. They either learn it's the people that make a club, or the shortly go out of buisness. ~Jessy _____________________

Just thank your lucky stars it's a real build, and not some retarded thing floating in the air. Then wait 1 tier payment cycle for the club to close, after they conduct an extensive investigation as to why people don't pay tip jars.

I like dance clubs but I wouldn't really want a huge great blocky one right next to my home. Not that I could complain or anything as long as it doesn't encroach. But in my invo I have a club I designed and built myself. I could always take down my house and put my club up right next to the new one!!!

90% odds it'll be gone within a month. If they succeed, there's a good chance they'll be interested in expanding and buying your land at a premium, so you can buy a much nicer place somewhere else.
If there's parcel encroachment, shouting objects that annoy you, or scripted objects that cause lag, do let the club owner know in a polite manner - it seems like a good number of them are noobs at the club business who are oblivious to these things. If the response from the club owner is hostile, look carefully for things that you can file a valid abuse report on. Retaliation will only get abuse reports filed on you, and you don't want that. Clarification: abuse reports that Lindens have been known to take action on include: 1. parcel encroachment - club owner's objects are partially on your land 2. abuse of sim resources - scripts that lag the region, or excessive campers that fill up the region _____________________

well if you have return powers, the prim thats on your land, you should be able to return. won't matter if its only creeping into your parcel, its ANY part of the prim is in your parcel, the land system registers that prim as in your land. Unless something has changed I'm not aware of: Prims dont neccesarily get counted as 'over your land' if they're creeping onto your parcel. It all depends where the center of the root prim is located. If the object is partially over your parcel, but the root prim is still on your neighbors parcel - it wont be counted against your parcel's prim totals - but you wont be able to return or remove it either. ![]() In cases like this, about all you can do is contact Linden if the neighbor wont fix it. This is also one of the reasons Linden has concerns over megaprims: With a megaprim, its much, much easier to have the root prim on one parcel, and still creep over others. _____________________

I may stand corrected but am led to believe that if a prim is only marginally over your land then you may not be able to return it. I've had it where a griefing object landed across mine and my neighbours land and as far as I could make out it did not count against my prim count, but nor could I remove the item because the centre of it was actually on my neighbours plot. I IM'd the neighbour and they were able to remove the item. Regarding the club, sit it out - places come and places go, so if you enjoy your spot then stick with it! |

Usually I "cross my fingers". Sometime's they are the same as having one of those fake "SL Armies" of griefers set up a base next door, only with more Gestures and Sploders...sometimes they don't make much of a difference other than more traffic.
My GF had a big ugly (looks like it came from an old Nintendo) Escort Club open up next to her art gallery last month...good thing she likes loud colors _____________________

I'm not gonna put it quite as blunt as the infamous 3Ring Binder, but yeah...when somebody pays the rent, it's like a website... the "3D" space, just takes away the conveniece that when somebody navagates away from your website, they don't see "the one next to yours"...but they do when it's a 3D Simulator instead *shurgs*
we'll end up having to get used to this for some time as this whole "Virtual Metaverse" thing gets more trendy, and more advanced _____________________

not intending to be harsh.... i'm just a 10-words-or-less kind of gal which tends to make me come across as curt.... plus, i am running low on patience and tolerance for BS, drama and Dear Abby "look at me" threads... and i think maybe this is my cue to keep away from forums for a bit.... unless i have a valid question.... since there's not too many to be answered, and i don't probably know the answers anyway....

Gee, I wonder if it is possible for a virtual world system to be designed differently, perhaps such that people are always neighbors by explicit choice?

I vote for ZONING!
02-02-2008 11:47
That's why we have zoning in RL, so my neighbor in the land of the free, can't put up a pig farm next to my beautiful home. As far as I know the only thing similar to that in SL is to be on an estate, but how many of us can or want to afford that. I'd like to see regions of SL be zoned, just like RL. If they can do age verification, why not zoning!

Once, long ago we had a beautiful Garden Plot in Jenner. We Logged in one morning to fine someone had bought the land next to ours and put up a large grey concrete Cube that housed Yet another Hip-Hop Dance club. We Ignored it (It was a P*ss poor build anyway) and waited. After six or 8 weeks of the building remaining unoccupied save for it's owners, it folded, and the land was sold.
Nothing in SL is Forever so it's not worth getting your knickers in a Twist. Angel |

well, when you are paying more than double the tier than the club owner is but you can't access your land because the max number of AVs for the sim are in the club, you have a right to be a bit miffed. But, more miffed at LL for allowing this situation to occur in the first place.
That said, I just had a new club open in my home sim a few weeks ago. I built a wall between their place and mine, completely on my own turf. The club owner complained because he didn't like the texture I used. We ended up chatting and I got a new friend out of the deal. Plus, when he found out that there was no way he was going to get more than 40 avatars in the sim he decided it wouldn't work for him anyway so he sold me his land for a good price (yes, he got a bit of profit) and moved on. So, sometimes it pays to just talk, politely, to your neighbor. You never know... |

If they can do age verification, why not zoning! The bottom line is your stuck waiting em out or moving cus you cant currently fight a landowners right to build whatever they want. Your totally f**ked when somebody plants a concrete bunker on the lot next to your house, paints it black, blows particles all over the place and calls it a dance club. But thats just an eyesore, even worse would be the most wonderous, magical, talented build on the face of SL. With awesome DJs playing the best music, and gorgeous naked women running around and they advertise the place as ' FREE SEX'! So that theres 75 newbs in there at any given time forcing you and your roommates house down to a 3 frame per second CRAWL. Zoning would alleviate this problem. No businesses next to residential communities. Any possible detriment that may arise from zoning is totally outweighed by the absolute misery sustained by those who have had to deal with noisy, popular, neighbors. _____________________

I've had quite a few clubs open up next to my rental properties over the last year, and as been highlighted in several posts in this thread, they usually close within a month with no intervention on my part. Those that truly annoyed me to action were those that used campers and laggy scripts, which always lead to me filing ARs over sim resources. But the best has been in PG areas where clubs open up and they advertise escorts etc etc etc. Usually it's people that are just looking for the cheapest land they can find and without thinking plunk down their lindens on a nice chunk of land thinking it's the deal of the century for their new club, while not even paying attention to the region's PG rating. Those people are TRULY bummed out when they learn where they've just set up shop and receive a friendly lil "welcome to the neighborhood, I've got my eye on you" welcoming.

i hate to say it but it depends strictly on the updates that are within a 64 meter range.
As a limited bandwidth user...I'm alotted a certain anount of BW per day...and i use my show update features alot. Updates eat up bandwidth terribly. If a light or anything is constantly blinking red...forget it. I look for a new place to live.. I don't excpect them to tear down...its my cross to bear. Other than that...i dont mind as long as they keep their stuff on their land. One of my first land ownage experiences happened to be right next to a sky diving platform..and these people thought it "hilarious" to land on my romantic ship parachute and all. I ended that quickly by putting up banlines which forced them to jump from the other side of their platform and drift everywhere except over my parcel ( I mean really..they were landing and splatting in a pool of blood on my love boat!!)Anyways..as long as the neighbor goes to great length to make sure that noone strays onto your land...cest la vie! ~Lana Tomba |
