Seriously.

Ignore the button.

Just drag and drop.

See if that works.

If you mean drag from the box that says color/solid, I can't even do that lol.

I'm using the Greenlife Emerald viewer rather than the official one, and the cutom colours in the picker are persistant even after relogging.

Yet another reason to really like this viewer. :)

Just make the color and drag it to the custom color you want it in. Don't worry about clicking on "add to custom colors".
Hmm...This stopped working for me a long time ago. I should try it again, I've been using work arounds for so long I had almost forgotten about it.

Nisa isn't talking about the color of the prim face, if I understand correctly, but about the saved custom colors in the SL color picker.
Although I do occasionally have this problem with prim skirts. I change the color, rename it, put it in inventory and then when I take it out again it's reverted to the color (or texture, usually) before the change.

Drag from the big color sample below the sliders down to the custom color swatch.

No joy Argent, I can't even do that, if you can do this, can you please tell me if the button Define Custom Colours is greyed out on your viewer, as mine is?

It's an alternative to the official one, though it looks the same it has a few extra features and a lot of people report it to be more stable. You can get it from here

http://modularsystems.sl/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=4

(the site makes it look like you need to register and log in to get it but you don't.)

I don't *have* a "define custom colors" button.

*light dawns*

Edit->Preferences->General.

Do you have "Use default system color picker" set?

I was kind of wondering what you were referring to, but assumed I just hadn't noticed it or it was some option somewhere. If you're using the system (native OS) color picker instead of the SL one... that would certainly explain why SL isn't saving and restoring its values.

Yes that is ticked "use default system color picker".

Uncheck that. I'm not sure why they even have that option... I guess for people who have installed a fancy third-party color picker that integrates with Photoshop or something and want to use that in SL.

For whatever it's worth, if I remember correctly, they added the system color picker option in response to complaints from people who didn't like the built-in one. Personally, I think the Windows default color picker sucks. SL's isn't great, but it's better than Windows'. If it were possible to bring in third party ones, that would be nice, but I don't think it is.

There's third-party color pickers you can get that take over as the default from the standard Windows one. I just assumed that they would work the same in SL as in other Windows programs... but I could be wrong, I haven't used one since Windows NT 3.51 was the latest and greatest.

Well I go to the foot of our stairs Argent.

Yea that works perfectly, and all the time I have been on sl I never knew that option was available. Brilliant.

You must have hit it at some point, because I'm pretty sure it's never been on by default.

But that's not uncommon, when you start up a new program and start playing with the settings to see what they do. Or at least I do. If there was a checkbox for "blow up planet" I wouldn't swear I wouldn't hit it.

There is a "UseDefaultColorPicker" setting in the Advanced/Debug Settings... box.

(EDIT) And it appears that the "Default Color Picker" is the OS one, so you want this set to "FALSE" in order to use the SL one.

I think they broke the color swatches like 2-3 years ago. It got never fixed.

I usually use a restricted palette. I rez other things I built and use the picker to color the faces of the new things I am making.

As for the rotation bugs, don't get me started. They've been with us so long they're now considered a feature...

They work just fine. If they don't work for you you're using the wrong color picker.
