State laws can not counter those, examples such as the Jim Crow laws and many forms of censorship by fundamentalist lawmakers trying to legislate their morality on the masses.

The depictions of avatars and the chat falls under first amendment rights. So the federal laws take precedence if the local/state laws are ruled unconstitutional. Which is what happens, in the case of various media and occurrences

The fun thing about the first amendment is anyone can say what they want, draw what they want, regardless of how others feel about it.

If someone wants to write a book, play or movie that involves underage sex... they can. they can even go to certain limits in depicting it (as long as there are no real minors involved).

State law only supercedes federal law if it is not violating the basic rights/freedoms as defined in the constitution (i.e. no state law can take away any of our constitutional rights). Virtual images, in some cases, can be a form of art and therefore falls under the freedom of speech issue. This is why the whole thing gets so complicated.

I can't find any that State of Oregon has lost on first amendment grounds. My state's not that stupid.

10 year old boy/girl + 30 year old man/woman = wrong in American society, and that is where i live. I would not go to Africa and try and stop men from laying with boys until the age of 16 or anything else they consider socially acceptable there.

What happens 10,000 miles away from the U.S.A. is really irrelevant.

I still find age-play unacceptable and gross, but I would not force any anti-age play laws in SL on anyone. Granted no one gets hurt and that is a good thing. But for me, I am not finding issues with 17 year old's having sex with adults - that is just silly. But once we get into pre-teens having sex with adults, i find my skin crawling and the entire conversation repulsive.

Is 10 years old a magic number or something? My kids are 7 and 9 and i will be sickened to my stomach to learn some woman had sex with my son at the age of 10. No one is attacking anyone in SL over this, but wow what is so hard about saying something like a 10 year old + 30 year old = WRONG, unless you think that is fine. In which case, i doubt you have children as I cannot imagine any parent looking at their kid of that age and thinking it would be o.k. for them to be engaged in sex with anyone of any age, especially an adult.

It wasn't so much cheeky as a way to point out what happens in sl is virtual. Much like what is depicted in books, movies, etc ... ( look at Taxi Driver, The Crush, and the ever popular Lolita movies )

All those involve underage interaction, yet are not child porn (all actors were of legal age as in SL... supposedly. all depictions of sex were simulated and not actual adult and child interactions.)

It kindat sounds like you are saying an age gap between a 10 year old and a 30 year old is acceptable, but I do not think you mean to say that, right?

A 22 year old age gap is fine. In fact, i don't care about any sort of age gap once we are talking about all parties being of U.S. legal age. I personally have had had a greater than 30 year age gap for a guy i dated shortly at 19. So I have no problems with that.

To each their own taste. People can age play in SL all they want and I wont be reporting them since I know they are adults at the keyboard. My opinion of the people may drop dramatically but I am just one person and no one here takes my opinion to heart so much that what i think or believe can hurt feelings. Or else I would have kept my mouth shut.

And the story with "that" relationship was erotic, not sexual, and it was mostly used as a toilet humor joke about the stereotype of unwed 30-somethings in Japan. You know, you might want to do something about that. Studies have shown that "short and stout" will result in being looked down upon more often than not.

The age of consent in my state is 16, hence legal here. This isn't child pornography. It may be illegal to do this in SL, but it's not in many states in RL.
