question about Linden water, and selling land

Hi everyone!

I have been gone from SL for a few months, and need a bit of help.

#1. I bought some property ..maybe a month or so ago. I paid what to me seemed like a typical amount. I want to sell now, but when I browsed through the Land Sales on the search form, I see alot of land for sale for $1. I saw some controversy about VAT? Does it have to do with that? Or am I searching in the wrong place? Is my land now worth nothing?

#2. The land I have is surrounded by what I was told is Linden water. How can I verify that it is actual Linden water? (if you want to look, the addy is Valeyard 246,192,21)

#3. The property I am wanting to sell is two 1024 plots. The way it is set up at the moment, each piece is surrounded by the water. Can I legally advertise it as an "island"?

That would be land on private estates. I'm assuming your land is on the mainland? Then limit your land search to mainland. It's starting around 6.0-6.1 today. Much lower than a few months ago, but better than 1!


That's iffy, as it implies private island. If you do that, make it clear that it is mainland. Like "Small sandy island on the mainland".

I just found a thread about the land prices crashing. So guess that answers my question about my land value...although I imagine it depends on where the property is.

Could somebody help me with the water question though please?

My land is at Valeyard 246,192,21. You'll see two 1024 lots with a palm tree and some shrubs on each....and water around them. Is that Linden water? and how can I verify that myself?

Be right there...

Left click on the land next to yours and choose 'about land' - this will tell you who owns the parcel(s). If it says Protected Land in the parcel description and is owned by Governor Linden, you're in luck.

Just advertise it as beautiful island oasis on mainland.

that was EXACTLY what I've been looking for for days...I went all around the map for something like one of these parcels.

@3Ring, I hope I didn't step on your toes with this one, as I just bought one of the two parcels...I have one half that size for half the money with a similar layout now that I don't need anymore... if anyone wants it.... (no, this is NOT supposed to be a commercial! )

Btw, Linden water isn't only the "protected" kind of "empty" sim space with water, it's just the kind of water that ISN'T prim water. Linden water can be used for boating, whereas prim water can't.

And these cute places have Linden water around them and are terraformable, contrary to those weird water-only places where someone chucks a platform onto the water and claims it's an island.... (Can you tell I've had oodles of fun trying to find a place that has TERRAFORMABLE sand and NOT just some inflatable prim island with a palm tree... )

I did find out that it is indeed Linden water.

I was given a few different answers on this situation but...it is Linden water.

Sorry Isabeau, I totally misunderstood your question about this. I thought you were asking if it was Linden-OWNED water, like a protected channel for boating. Didn't even occur to me that you meant "real" water vs. prim water.

I wasnt sure if I should make that post or not. I didnt want to sound pissy. I just did it because of the differing info and because someone who responded here bought a piece...blah blah blah...lol

I'd have thought that too.

Looking through the land sales list the other day, I've come to the conclusion that 'protected water' can sometimes mean 'no water at all with no protected edge whatsoever'. I also came across a parcel in a 'class 7 sim'. Some parcels are way ahead of themselves apparently. =D

Class 7 sims will have time distortion processors that allow them to recover from problems before they happen. They sometimes show up on the grid now, despite having not been invented yet, because of a sim bug similar to prim-drift that causes them to mis-calculate the time offset.

Still in Class.. ha.. mine graduated. it still is graduating... gradually downwards... eventually i think it will become a minus sim server...AND, it has Havoc..... Griefers, Ad Farms..VAT, all kinds of Havoc... i reckon it is at least Havoc 10 now..

Seriously, I spend DAYS looking for something with Linden water AND some beach to terraform, and you wouldn't believe what people advertise their land as.....I found more bloody water only plots than I can count.

Is it Linden water? it must be below PH 7 , so i understand, to be Linden water.. certainly if you stick your avs foot in and there is a fizzing sound and no more av foot, then it might just be acidic enough to be Linden water..

Wow neat. I've never seen bloody water plots. Well, except once. Crimson Shadow (I think that's the name) had blood water.
