For some reason there is a Release Candidate 1.19 viewer available even though the download page is still showing the older one.
From: someone

I just installed that and it wouldn't start, saying to download the old version.

Might want to hold off of it for a while.

Some folks are reporting success though.

Hmm, maybe it's a night to visit Hipihi and Novoking.

By the way, there's going to be an English version of Papermint in a few weeks. That should be fun.

I was able to log in with 1.19 for a while. I evnetually crashed and had to revert to 1.18.6.4RC or whatever it is.

While I was in with 1.19 though I noticed lots of fun bugs. When you sit down, there's no stand button. I have the camera controls and movement controls on my screen. After switching to mouselook and back, they have moved up from the bottom where I keep them, to the middle of the screen and can't be moved lower.

There is no chat button, just a silly little small icon in the lower left corner. The communicate ui was different, although I didn't dislike it. Oh and when I received an IM, there was the IM sound but the 'im' button did not appear, so if the sound were muted or whatever, there's no visual indication of an incoming IM.

on the other hand, I could see it going live in a day or two :)

I can't imagine why anyone would choose to test a release candidate when the current candidate seems more like a beta version anyway.

I got it to run by adding

-channel "Second Life WindLight"

to the command line .

It complained about my QuickTime viewer version and disabled qt.

I have the latest qt alternative as of when the qt security problem got fixed.

The chat icon looks like the one in the Beta Mono candidate.

In comments to the blog post about LL borking (sorry, "improving";) the Name and Description fields of scripts, someone asked about 1.19. Prospero Linden replied:

"Those who downloaded 1.19.0 RC client : that wasn’t supposed to be released yet, and was briefly offered because of a glitch. It should no longer be offered anywhere. Watch this space next week to find out if there is any more information forthcoming…."

I think they put 1.19 out by mistake.. It worked for a bit earlier tonight but now it says I _must_ download 1.18.6.

It needs some fixes but I kinda liked it, while it worked. Almost reminded me of the pre-communicate-window version...

After rereading that bit from Prospero... it doesn't sound all that encouraging, does it?

"find out if there is any more information forthcoming…"

Like, maybe some more information on 1.19 will become available... or maybe 1.19 will be quietly buried in an unmarked grave and we'll never hear of it again...

False positives.

False positive's are not uncommon. Second Life and many thousands of other programs have produced false positive results in anti-malware programs. The flaw is in the anti-malware software, not the programs incorrectly identified as having a virus, trojan, etc.

Hipihi was using the Kaspersky Antivirus software for their virus checking at the time those false positive reports appeared.

I mentioned the reports of trojans in the Hipihi forums and in IM with Hipihi staff. Since then, Hipihi has worked with Grisoft to reduce the probability of future false positives. Hipihi has modified their uninstaller software so that it doesn't trigger these false positives. I know this to be true of their latest version 50011 because I use Grisoft, among other software. Grisoft AVG, Microsoft Defender, Asquared Free, Spybot, and several others all report 50011 as malware free, in my own tests, as does Hipihi's copy of Kaspersky.

False positive status was confirmed by Grisoft corporation for earlier versions of Hipihi.

You have a lot of guts then. I don't install anything they put out, not voluntary anyway. It has to be the only way I can enter sl by downloading whatever they put out, otherwise I stay with the old version.

This is why I haven't loaded the windlight or whatever they call it as well as all the other stuff, viewers included. Don't have it, don't want it. You learn as you go along the way things are done in sl and after a while you don't trust anymore nor do you want to. Way too many problems from downloading new stuff that usually hasn't been tested correctly then to top it off you get no help when things go wrong from downloading these same things.

You live. You learn.
