I've started lots. But, since I'm beginning a new RL gig shortly, if it works out I really SHOULDN'T spend time in the forums anymore.

We'll see how that works out.

I started 16 but I'm very much a poster not an opener and I tend to read more threads than anything else. I think I got the best laugh out of the relentless puns in the recent Tazer thread, which I can't find now.

I almost started a thread a number of months ago, but then I chickened out after a forumite answered my question at the Hangout :)

I would like to start one right now....as a well intentioned gentle reminder on a particular topic.

But it would be taken by the majority as an intention to "incite" anger, no matter how carefully it was worded....and based on this particular forum's past behavior....it most certainly would incite "something".....in which case.... the "think before you post" rule applies.

On any other forum I've used....it would be acceptable, and a healthy discussion would follow....and it would not incite a flame fest at all.

Unfortunately....there is probably at least one other person out there, that would like to do the same, whether it be post a thought for discussion or to ask a question.

I wonder how many new users with fresh ideas and fresh thoughts and legitimate questions will post their first thread today, or even venture to insert their ideas into another thread.

There are 316 online as I write this.....running through the list.....it appears that most are viewing a thread.....wonder what percentage will participate for the first time today....and wonder what percentage will insert a thought that needs to be expressed to the benefit of a discussion today.

I sort of hate to say it, but I agree with Mickey. I don't hate that I'm agreeing with Mickey (*grin*) but I hate that I'm agreeing with her statement. There seems to be a lot of vitriol here in RA these days, and I can see why people would be leery of starting a new thread, when they might get scorned out of the room 10 minutes after they posted (re: Zeitgeist guy). I'm not a rose, I know that. I've caught myself saying bitchy and snide things as much as the next girl, but lately in view of the general atmosphere, I've started trying to monitor myself. I DID post a bitchy reply to Nonconformist, but deleted it as soon as I could; I figured I wasn't helping anyone by being a snot.

There ARE a lot of people lurking around; God knows I lurked for a good 2 months before I even drummed up the courage to post here, and I was terrified that I'd get laughed/screamed out of the place for being stupid. Thank goodness people overlooked that. :p

Since it looks like we're Moderator-less, it's up to us to moderate ourselves, and by that I DO mean ourSELVES; it's no one's place here to wave fingers or nit-pick on individuals.

This is always true in forums. It sucks too. But compared to political and religious forums RA is like a easy going beer at the pub.

Considering how serious this is for some people, financially and emotionally and how in part polarized some topics are it's posters are relatively decent.

That said, it's true that it is unnerving for some to post and their input is lost, and it is for the reasons Micky mentions.

I've also found SL population inword to be pretty civilized, I assumed it was because it was that one step closer to r/l with the responsibility of business deals and paying to play.

I've not been a rose, either....but trying harder these days. A few reminders was all it took. Some days it takes a lot of rewording and major effort to pull that off :)
