Even though I'm a beneficiery of the dropdown Classifieds (I'm at #3 there but down at #16 in the Classifieds tab) I think it's just plain wrong to rank them in All->Classifieds in any other way than by the amount paid. Imo, they've got that competely wrong.
You just can't take money for prominence and not deliver it - but they do at the moment.

It does imply to me, "ads that any ol' person can place," so maybe I can see the stretch to "people's old junk."
It seems to lead shoppers in SL to apartments and rental homes just fine, so I don't have a problem with the term. I see "people's old junk" in classifieds all the time. Used cars, used sewing machines, etc. In the USA myself. |

Yes, but I'm sure you also see trade ads, etc. Classifieds mean categorised ads of all kinds - not just ads for used stuff.

Oh sorry, I thought you meant that you didn't see used stuff in classifieds. When I think of classifieds I think of newspaper classifieds filled with personal ads, used car ads, and job ads, etc. |

It certainly doesn't imply that in the UK. well i'm English and live in England and for ages and ages I NEVER looked for ANYTHING in Classified section of Search. It just makes me think of small ads in the back of a local newspaper - not somewhere I would look for a club or a clothes shop etc. I can't be alone in this! |

They are mostly small ads, but thay are a mix of trade and personal ads.

i have never used classifieds because i don't feel like "being bought". in fact, i rebel against such logic.
i always root for the underdog and big business and large corps have never had my sympathy or inetrest.

But that doesn't change the fact that people are paying for prominence, and they aren't receiving it is the All->Classifieds listings
