Who are the attractive couple on the home page of SL website? I think I know who they are, but am not sure. How do we find out who the models/people are who are portrayed in the website? Thanks.

Hi Lehua,

The image on the homepage rotates, so it's hard to say which couple you mean.
I'm guessing they're Lindens btw, because I seem to remember someone mentioning Lindens popping around everywhere shortly before the new homepage came up.

As the vast majority of people simply buy other people's skins, shapes, hair, clothes accessories etc... it could really be anyone really.

There are very few "totally unique" avatars in SL. My shape is my own creation, but the hair, clothes and shoes I wear I just bought from someone else, and it's feasible that someone else could have done the same... however I've never met anyone that looks like me so I am almost unique I guess.

Do you really think so? Do most people actually buy their shapes then, do you think?

That seems a real shame to me. Crafting our shape is an opportunity we all have to be creative and express our individuality. It takes relatively little technical skill - compared with making clothes for example. Just some time learning how to use those sliders.

On a related note, I was actually offered L$3.5k for my shape a while ago. She asked if I would sell, I said no and she just kept making higher offers. Mad. But there's no way I would want to walk into myself. Yeuch.

The concept of buying shapes blows my mind. I get complimented on my shape all the time. People wanting to know where I got it. All I did was spend a lot of time and patience tweaking it here and there til it felt right. I bump into other avs with my hair and skin frequently and they look nothing like me because of the shapes. I hope to keep it that way.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

My avatar tends to be totally unique, though I'm gearing up to sell the "base" avatar that I'm currently using and made entirely myself, I will undoubtedly be adding to it things that I will not sell. Sure, there'll be similar looking avatars out there, but none that look just like mine.

I think the shape can be the make-or-break for the overall avatar. Taking any one skin, the freebie CS Passport Malibu for example and you can see the complete range of drop-dead gorgeous to the anatomically unlikely with all stops in between. I cherish the fun I get with tweaking my shapes; I might log on, spend an hour on that alone and logout again but I appreciate (and witness!) that some haven't the eye for the coordination. And all-in-all, we each have our own opinions or wants anyway. To this end we are all unique but I'm sure there are many who buy a content creators shape/skin package and 'cheat' ;)

I used a freebie shape as a base and then tweaked to get the best look. As most of my clothes tend to be freebies I do a lot of mix and matching to make me as individual as possible.
I think it is unlikely that you will run into an exact replica of yourself - unless you are using the entire newbie av - because people don't tend to use the exact same items with the same skin etc. But it would be wierd if I ran into someone with the same outfit and hair as me. I don't think I would like it much.

I think she means the couple on the bench on the link for the events section. If you press refresh a couple of times it should come up.

Making a shape can require a lot of experience and tweaking and that frustrates some people. I've also noticed that different communities are more likely to buy shapes than others. Many Japanese sims, for instance, have lots of shape stores and typically shapes come included with their skins. (The problem with that is that they're no modify, which I really dislike, since I usually have to tweak my shape whenever I change almost anything else about my av.)

In answer to the actual question, they're not necessarily Lindens. There was for a while a trend for using resident avs in the marketing screenshots, but I think some people complained and for a while it was standard that Lindens would be used, but I don't know if that remained in force (the complaints weren't very well supported)

I've seen these two in world shopping, and on the homepage shopping. Not sure if Lehua consider these two "a couple." Oh, and they are Lindens.

----

I used the default female shape as a base and then made my own shape off of it.

Shape? You can buy a shape?

All kidding aside, I found creating my shape/facial features one of the most enjoyable aspects in the beginning of learning about SL.

I spent a lot of time studying "myself", figuring out if things looked correct or not. I'm very pleased with what I created. Took a lot of time to get it right. As everyone points out, much "tweaking" back and forth. It's a amazing what a little bit of the slider can accomplish one way or the other. Even still, there are days when I take a look, and have realized something is just a bit amiss, and have gone back and fixed it up a tad.

As for the skin, I used SinSkins free Malibu skin and love the tone, and have stuck with it. Its soft, light coloring suits me. I've tried others, but have not found any that make me feel any more "me".

As for the couple, they look generic to me. Could be anyone, anywhere walking around inworld.

I created my own shape that basically looked like the RL me and wore it for months, but got tired of seeing myself on the screen. Now I rotate between a cat shape I bought and a man shape I bought. Actually two man shapes, both that came with skins. I seem to be wearing the shape from one place, and the skin from the other. Both, though, have full beards, like I do in RL, and I find so few in world that have full beards. Mostly seems to be shaggy unkempt hair patches or clean shaven.

well technically cheesecake isn't cooking (unless you do a warm baked one) its a fridge cake. But I have been told i make nice pie. I lurve to bake...maybe I should try to make one of my wimberry pies inworld. Might be a good challenge lol.

Speaking of skin, does anyone know where I can get a nice pale English Rose type skin, nice makeup - not too OTT. I'm getting bored of my freebie one, it's beginning to make me look like a panto dame...

I made my shape with the hopes that it varied enough from the default to create an impression of reality, while still being at least acceptably attractive. Accordingly, I am short and vary from perfect proportions in ways that real women do, except for the face, which has an unreal touch or two.

Some people are amazingly adept with shapes - I know a graphic artist who, early on in our SL acquaintance, was able to tell me the approximate slider settings for most of my AV, simply by looking at her.

My alt has been a clothes model for a while, and for her I basically created many variations on my basic shape theme (while keeping the face the same), showing off the clothing as well as possible for that body "type".

I wish I had the time to create an abstract avatar! I have a pet idea for one ...

I worked hard on my shape but couldn't get it quite realistic enough. There are brilliant shape makers out there who not only sell shapes but consult to help you tweak the one you made. I had help putting a bit of fat/padding in the right spots and I'm thrilled with the result. I look like a real girl, Pinocchio! Not a porn queen, not something out of anime, and not the generic woman who walks off Orientation Island.

If you DO buy a shape, the odds of meeting your twin as slim to none. Do you buy your shape, skin, hair, clothes, etc, all in a single package? Where's the fun in that?

I tink there's many unique ones, jes in different ways. You'll not likely find a combination of attributes dat look like me, for example, even if you discount the "home made" shape. A lot of the bits dat make up me were made for me, too, like my usual hair, my skin, etc. -- but each of those is also now for sale. But you can put my glasses, my hair, my skin, an all dat together, an you still won't have a Marianne McCann. Same with a lotta avvies, I tink. :-)

I had an unnerving encounter in which someone thought I had gotten hold of her custom-made shape somehow. We went through slider by slider and I told her where I had bought it. Finally decided it was similar but not the one that she and her friends had labored over for days. She had the same skin I did, too, though not the same hair. So having those things the same (or practically), even when they come from very different sources, can happen.
