I have uninstalled and reinstalled so many times that i've lost count. I will do it once more though and I will delete that folder in the roaming folder that holds the cashe and the logs. I use avg antivirus program too. I can shut that down as well. I will also do all the pc clean up crap. /me looks for her dishwashing gloves and gets ready to roll up her sleeves.

As for giving my stuff to Ee - umm... no. But if you wanna take over my land payments to LL maybe we can work something out ;)

Unfortunately the uninstaller no longer removes the directory (or even all the files!!) it puts the cache in. And "clearing your cache" does not delete the entire directory either.

So after uninstalling you have to go in and delte that folder yourself. Its in

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data

in XP, which is also a hidden folder. Your computer might not use "Owner" but might have a name you gave it.

to completely uninstall you have to uninstall and then delete that folder - then try a new download for the reinstall.

ok, no one else suggested this (that i saw) so i'm going to throw it out there.

you say it is your isp.... i think that if you are willing, you should take your computer tower to someone else's house and hook it up to their moniter and see if you can log in on their isp.

this will, at least, let you know if it is your computer, or your isp. and then, make decisions from there.

at worst, if you still decide to quit, (if you can log in elsewhere), at least you can stay active enough to sell your land, and not have to abandon it.

Precisely. Narrow down WHOSE issue it is!

If it's your computer, the account will work fine on someone else's comp. I have three computers in my household.. more but only three can run SL. If I notice something up, I hop onto the hubby's. If it works just fine there, I can eliminate my account and my ISP from the roster and know it's my computer. If it doesn't.. then it's time to take the laptop to a friend's house and try it there. If that works, then I know it's my ISP and if it doesn't, it's LL's problem ;)

Nine times out of ten, though, it is my computer and network's fault ;)

I used to work for an internet service provider and one thing that I haven't seen anyone else mention is that it is possible to uninstall Zone Alarm, and leave all of its port blocking behind--with no way to turn it off unless you reinstall ZA.

If you don't know what what the configuration was when you uninstalled ZA, reinstall it and be sure to remove all the blocks before uninstalling.

Also, if you can, try another PC on your connection. a previous poster had the right idea about isolating the problem.

Wireless. Bummer. In the few times that you did manage to login, did you ever notice what the packet loss was? Or even what the color of the little bars in the upper right of your screen were?

I don't believe NAT is an issue here. I have run NAT'd from several locations, including universities and hotels. Nor do I think DNS is the issue - I doubt you'd get as far as connecting to region if that were the problem. And it seems unlikely that port blocking by the ISP is an issue, since you did manage to connect fully for a couple of hours.

I think now that your ISP may simply have done something so that your round trip time for packet transmission has gotten unacceptably long for SL. Can someone recommend a wireless link bandwidth program for her to use to check what she is actually getting? I bet the DSL ones, which I use, have assumptions about the network architecture that don't hold true in her case.

I think taking your computer to someone else's house who has a hard wired connection is a great idea.

OK hon try this tester from CNET:
http://reviews.cnet.com/7004-7254_7-0.html
I personally think that a download speed of 400kb/sec or less is going to be a red flag, tho I'd be interested in others' opinions on that. It seems to me that SL tends to be unreliable below 300kb, the CNET tester seems to run a little high, and you do need some bandwidth left over for signaling etc..

Not sure about upload speed requirements.

I had major major issues using wireless. It would be fine for a few days, and then be totally cludgy for weeks. Also, I hate to ask, but are you running ONLY SL when you try to run? No Skype or iTunes running secretly in the background?

Btw, your ISP need not have done anything different at all to cause this problem, it occurs to me. In one of the more recent updates, LL did something that has made "connecting to region" take noticably longer, in both initial login and TPs. That 'something' might easily have been a lot more network traffic.

If your wireless link is near the edge more often than not, that 'something' may just have been enough to push you over it.

did you also read you need to defrag/clean disk? the system as well? well of course it leaves parts after you deinstall........ After years of deinstalling and reinstall not one have i had issues like the poster who started this thread. But the parts that are left behind should not be causing any conflect reguardless. If that was the case after all these years had same problem.

My wife had this exact same problem, stalling partially through the log-in. Fought with it for about 8 hours. Clearing out said folder and starting up SL again was all that it took to fix it.

Good, seems like the issues are a little more on the server side that corrects itself within a period of time. That what I have experienced for these 3 years. Not once had i done it.
