If someone goes on vacation and brings their laptop with them, is there any chance of their account being flagged for suspicious activity if they're suddenly logging in from halfway around the world to where they usually log in from?

I'm not sure but probably. However, you might want to peek into this thread, this is from someone who hasn't changed location:

It shouldn't be a problem, unles the logins occurred so close together time wise that an air flight between the two physical locations would be impossible. Such as a login from New York, and 5 minutes later a login from somewhere in China.
I had a building client once who travelled a lot, and accessed SL from wherever she was in the world. Italy, New York, Israiel, China... She never had issues with it. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Just spoke with the support people and they said that it can, in fact, trigger a fraud alarm on the account, although simply logging in from a different location probably would not be enough.. In other words, that alone *probably* won't do it.
They also suggested that before you leave for vacation you can call them and ask to have a note added to the account history stating that for the next whatever-period of time you'll be logging in from another location... |

Such as a login from New York, and 5 minutes later a login from somewhere in China. Such an occurence might be the same person using a VPN! (e.g. person working for a Chinese company visits New York, connects to SL from hotel room, realises they also need some files on a corporate server, connects to VPN server in China, reconnects to SL...) Using an ip address to determine location is not particularly reliable (not least of all as it tends to indicate where your isp is located rather than where you are located). Matthew |

I often login from different locations, and have never had a problem.
