what if Google buys out Linden Labs?

well, Youtube, was in california, and they bought that, what would happen if they bought Linden Labs for 2.5 billion like they did to YouTube?

i don't know if that would be a good thing though.

well, they may just say "we own linden labs" kind of thing, ya know, youtube was founded by 2 college graduates in 2005, and was not all that big, after Google bought it earlier this year for 2.5 billion dollars, then i don't know, its highly possible..........but then we would have google search bars in-world. bleh

all im saying is, with the market getting so tight right now, the only way for bigger and better it "buy the competition" so-to-speak.

Search is going to change and was described to me as "looking like google". Which makes me wonder if it is actually google, after all ebay have muscled in on the auctions.

I'd have a much lower opinion of Google. Which is why it wont happen; Google is a little too savvy for that.

Did you hear of Googles purchase of nearly 200 (with option for additional 1,000) acres near Omaha Nebraska for server farms? Maybe thats the beginning... ?

I use to live in Omaha and have friends and family in Council Bluffs Iowa where they are opening the complex. Council Bluffs is a great place to hide them, no one would want to go there to find them.

And SL would too, because the Search apparently is the root of all teh evuls! Ever notice how it goes down before TPing does?

Google hired a bunch of indie SL developers not to long ago, including my flatmate who made the Second Life GPS system. That thing that shows where you are in SL through a webpage.

Wondering what would happen if Google bought our service provider is a bit like wondering what would happen if Sears bought Dole the pineapple company. Or vice versa. Other than Sears getting pineapply or fruit ending up at the mall... doesn't matter much.

Big money usually translates to big dreams, but there is also such a thing as big neglect and it's *far* more common.

The big fear is something that would work perfectly and appeal to the masses... and be utterly worthless, such as losing build tools or flexibility or the risky, questionable parts of the service like virtual currency.

If you think ad farms are bad now, gods help us if the service provider feels a need to ad farm us as well.

As far as I know, the new Search system is indeed powered by Google's software, however there would be no other involvement from Google in its operation. That was stated during office hours.

While a purchase from Google might sound like an exciting prospect to some, please remember that Google is a spam company and their goal is not to improve the world in any way, shape or form, but to force adverts down your throat for profit. I'd consider it a devastating blow if they purchased Second Life, because their priorities and ambitions would not be the same as ours.

Is SL even worth 2.5 billion? YouTube was alot less complex, can pretty much run on even older slower machines and very trendy when Google bought them. SL compared to YouTube is a niche product that will run well on a fairly high end system and poorly most everywhere else. I guess that SL will command a high selling price the day it runs flawlessly even on mobile devices. I think that day is a long way off.
