One of my first thoughts when I arrived at Help Island was how I would react to SL if this was what was waiting for me after I died. After all, we can fly like angels and basically do whatever we want within some dictates by Unseen Godlike Beings.

I know this sounds a bit morbid, but if this was heaven, could you handle it? What would be the hardest thing to adjust to? What would be the best when its time to go "to your scattered bodies" and come to this "Riverworld"?

(Since I have flatlined twice in my real life I am sorry to inform all of you that there is no bright tunnel or a sense of floating. Its a vacuum of non-ness. Nothing. So its a comfort to think of sl as a kinda heaven on earth to play in while i'm still around)/

I'd be really disappointed by God.

I prefer to think of it as the Singularity, and ... hell yes. Rhapsody of the Nerds, here I come.

This would explain ghosts.

The dead get through Heaven's OI and HI, and them get dumped into Waterhead as their Home Cloud.

So they come back.

For sure -- if I'm dead and therefore not working, how the hell would I pay my tier. Not to mention supplement my shopping addiction.

SL is fun, but it's nowhere near my idea of heaven. My ideas of what heaven might be like are a bit quirky and way out, but in a nutshell, it might be similar to real life but without the built in shareware limitations of gravity, entropy, jealousy, and so forth.

I do think virtual worlds like SL are one tiny step toward Kurzweil's Singularity. (Non-geeks will just have to Google that. I'm too beat today to understand the term.)

I was already calling it "Hell Island" by the time someone airlifted me out of there.

Would this make me a heavenly land baron?

Of course, there's still a difference between a class four and a class five Heaven... grins

I don't believe in heaven, but if I did; it better not be like SL! Log in issues.(Sorry, you can't die right now, despite our best efforts Heaven is not connecting) TP and transaction issues.Attachment issues. Noobs running around showing off their new free penises.Be more like hell....

I don't believe in Heaven either, but if it did exist, I imagine it would be a Most Predictable Experience. (tm)

Since I fell head over heels in love with SL from my very first log in - I'd be quite chuffed.

No, no , no. Most definitely not.

All the people; the many, many people. And the complete lack of privacy. An eternity of that, in return for being able to fly and TP? No thanks.

Even though I'm another evil nonbeliever, I'll share my own opinion too. I'd have to say that SL is nothing like I would imagine the idealistic "Heaven" to be. Still, it's not entirely "Hell". Lag, griefers, LL-incompetance, censorship, failed TPs, borked inventory, tier payments (I don't imagine Heaven would charge tier). Zindra also seems oddly out of place in "Heaven". There are some really awe-inspiring creations to take in though. I find SL much more akin to "Earth", flying and insta-Teleports notwithstanding.

I'm sorry to have to tell you, but you might have ended up in hell. I'm sure that it is an accident that will be resolved quickly.

Remember to submit a ticket.

Also remember that time works differently and your idea of quickly . . well . . .

My idea of Heaven is SL where ...

10) megaprims are not frowned upon
9) there are no tier payments and you get as much land as you want
8) there are no prim limits
7) scripts actually do what you want
6) everything is free; creators make things for the joy of it
5) you don't need animations to move how you want
4) the UI is totally immersive
3) there are no bugs
2) there is no lag
1) Jig and Lil are always available for some quality time!

;-)

Yes, when you have eternity, any finite time is an infinitesimal fraction thereof.

Whoever came up with the idea of eternal damnation clearly didn't understand the math. ;-)

SL would almost work as heaven, but you'd need to ditch the monetization. Also, you'd need a way to bring in the offline part of the experience (designing in GIMP and other software) plus the forums where serious talk happens. I don't mind the empty space as a live person making brief visits because sometimes I'm just anti-social or too tired to care, but if I were in SL something like eight hours straight (If I can do eight, I can do twenty-four, and one day would lead to another) I'd need to find people to whom I could talk and to whom I could listen.

If Heaven turns out to be like SL then I hope God's first name is Lucy. Then I could use one of my favorite lines from old TV shows.

"Lucy, you got some splainin to do!"

If Jig's right and there's nothing after The End, then a virtual world might just be a good substitute.

We'd have to have more realism, of course, and a way to upload your memories and personality in digital form.

It would be a form of immortality (well, life extension, anyway) that you could buy.

A whole industry would spring up around it, something like the long term care insurance stuff.
