Random person on our land

Hey, I am part of a group owned parcel on the mainland and it seems like every hour or 30 min there is a random person who teleports there and then teleports away within 10-20 seconds.

Is there any reason for this? Is Linden Labs using bots to test the stuff in SL?

Same person? Different people?

Is it possible that you took over from a relatively popular store and people are following stale landmarks or picks?

AFAIK -- Linden bots all have "test" somewhere in the name.

They may have logged out from that spot and keep logging back in and crashing. Or it could be a landbot using your parcel to land on while it buys a parcel elsewhere on the sim. Or it's someone from the group that has set that land as Home. Those are my three guesses.

If it bothers you, put an avatar detector out to catch the name (or just stand nearby and wait for them and get the name manually) and then ban them from the property.

It's most certainly anything but Lindens testing. They have islands such as Bug Island and First Look Island, Crash Me, etc, for that. Not to mention ones that dont appear on the map.

It's different people every time. The avatars are always new and the clothes/skins never rez. They are always ruthed. And in my opinion it's too frequent and consistant that it is people just teleporting there and teleporting elsewhere.

Sometimes the name is random letters (sdfisd). Sometimes it's actual words.

They do not respond to normal channel chat nor do they respond to IMs.

Most of the avatars are within three months old as well. It doesn't really bug us at all it's just kind of odd.

Mostly likely bots, then.

The Lindens do send bots out into the public sims. performance Tester (and siblings performance2, 3, 4) pop up all over the grid. There is also a series with the last name LLQABot but it's the Tester family that seems to get out there.

Next time you capture a name, do a search and see what group they are a member of. That might help solve the mystery or lead you to the primary account holder who is not a bot.

Milan Salas was the last person I saw which was just before making this thread. The profile is completely blank. No groups, no about me, no picks, no class, no first life, etc.

Edit:
New person at 1:54 (Previous was at 1:12) Pivello Anthony

Again, blank profile

Yeah, I am still trying to figure out what this "First life" is.... I hear it has a really cool weather system and the graphics are amazing. That's all I know though :(

I'm getting exactly the same scenario on an empty parcel across the street from my store in
Apoda. Random avatars every hour or so, profiles empty, always the same spot. They only stay long enough for me to detect and try to get their names... my guess is landbaron bots trying to catch bargains.

Some of them turn by 90°, then wait, then turn again, and so on until they have scanned the full region. Then they TP out again.

That's typical bot behaviour, IMO.

Same Problem!
04-13-2008 04:36
This started just yesterday on an island I rent! Like the original poster, they tp in, always in the same spot, are gray, have no information at all in their profile, are ruthed, never say anything, never respond to anything in regular chat or IM, one that I know of has taken an inventory item offered to them, they never move that I've noticed, at times they arrive as frequently as every few minutes, in the last 6 hours my visitor counter has counted 19 of them, some have strange names others more "normal", some come more than once, and they all have been "born" between the dates of 3/18/08 and 3/25/08. The spot they TP into is not the landing point for the sim but is for the parcel I rent. The sim is residential and there are no parcels for sale here. Anybody know how to stop this? Thanks!

Yeah they are probably bots, I have ones that are in and out before even rezzing, only know because the visitor logger sees them.

Disallow access to avatars that have "no payment info used". But this will of course chuck up a banline for anyone that has no payment used status.

Re-parcel your area to make the favourite arrival spot a damage-and-push-enabled parcel called "Combat Area - Warning! Trespassers will be shot on sight" ... then start using the bots for target practice.

*insert evil laugh here*

I had a security orb set out that will boot after 10 seconds, and the traffic seems to have slowed down, maybe a couple every hour. So maybe it will solve itself? I understand they are probably bot sor clones or whatever....but what causes them to drop in that particular spot? Just wondering if anyone knows why this happened, if there is a purpose? Thanks :)

The bots are probably scanning the sim for campers.

I ran into performance Tester yesterday. The avatar was just one big cube. lol.

Bots tend to TP in to the center of the sim to do their business. If you are at or near position 128,128 in your sim, that's likely what's going on.

I posted a thread a while ago entitled, "Is this a bot: what is she doing?" where we discussed this same issue. I'm still getting the same activity in that location (Devolin Mal). The avatar fits a pattern most times, which was why I was suspicious it was a bot army being created by the same person. But now I'm so used to it I hardly take notice of the poor "missing textures" girl with the Feb rezzdate when I pass by the spot.

I'm now getting similar activity in the Liome sim. The project is still not finished, so I haven't advertised the location, but I get many many teleports daily to the landing point. These, however, don't match the M.O. from Devolin Mal. They appear to be more like "real" avatars that don't fit a pattern. It's a public place, so any visitors are welcome anyway, but it's just a real mystery why suddenly one parcel would somehow become a hot landing spot, particularly when the parcel isn't even being promoted yet.

And I don't think these people are looking for Ray's reef anymore, because this started happening recently. But maybe just in case, I should put some crabs there to welcome them!

Yeah I highly doubt it's real people, since any promotion I would have done for the sim is long since gone.

It's odd, I never had random bots coming to Liome back when I had it.

But the thought of crabs and Liome brings a sentimental smile to my face. :)

Go somewhere that has a money tree and see if you can spot similar activity. There's a good chance that the previous owner had one. As an example, you can go to Sand Dollars in the NW corner of the Beachcomber Isle sim. The landing point is in between 2 money trees at the corners of the building.

Same thing, blank avatars...
04-14-2008 13:36
I've had the same blank avatars showing up in Rekall for months. They are always female in different
states of dress, different appearances. They used to have the group name 'I, Avatar' when the previous
owner had the property. They do seem to be some kind of bots, just hang around a couple of minutes
and disappear. I had some fun by putting a 'push' trampoline at my landing point, and watched them bounce up and down about 100 meters until they disappeared. Just my sick sense of humor, I guess.
I'll send you a trampoline if you want one, lol. I still don't know where they come from.... Please let me know
if you find out.

Enjoy!!!

I've seen Linden Test Bots come onto Private sims before.
