Over the past couple or maybe even few weeks I have noticed avatars not appearing under their name until i Cam in close to them (like right atop their name).
Today a guy walked right up to me invisible and i saw him coming the entire time via my radar but couldn't see his avatar until I Cam'd to where i thought he was at which point he appeared on my screen.
This is getting worse for me. More and more avatars are appearing invisible with just a name floating over their head even if they are less than 10m from me. Only after Cam'ing over them does their name appear.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hmmmm... Maybe......you're tapping into the SL spiritual realm.... But seriously, no...I haven't seen it with other avatars, only myself once in a blue moon if I TP to a place with lots of lag. Is there any kind of jira on this yet? You should probably start one.....that has got to be a total pain in the a$$.....especially if a good friend up and changes their hair style!!! How the hell you gonna know who they are now!!! (well, ok yeah besides the floating name bubbles)

I've seen quite a bit of that but I thought it was something to do with having my draw distance right down on 64m or maybe a bad connection.
I've also noticed other things like the polygons of the avatar mesh looking much cruder in recent months than they ever did before.
I'm using the latest standard viewer and my impression was that perhaps a whole bunch of defaults have been changed to improve general performance.

I read something somewhere about a new max number of avatars that the current viewer will render. Anything above that number will be invisible until you change your camera angle.

I saw an invisible av. They were new, so at first I thought maybe they had gotten some render-invisible thingy sent them as a joke and worn it. (The sim was not crowded or large. It wasn't render time or lag.)
They didn't want to check in inventory (or learn how, maybe) so they relogged because they didn't want to be invisible. The relog fixed it.
They were not a cloud, but completely invisible. Usually if someone is slow rezzing they're at least grey or their prims appear.
So fwiw I've seen it too, once.

From: Eli Schlegal I read something somewhere about a new max number of avatars that the current viewer will render. Anything above that number will be invisible until you change your camera angle. There were only 4 people in the sim. I have seen this happen in crowded sims and in empty sims. I have had someone TP about 3-4m away and appear invisible until I moved my Cam over their name, at which point they appeared.

JIRA here: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9137I've been suffering from this for months, I felt it got quite a lot better with 1.22 (but was still happening) but with the 1.23RC it seems to be worse again.

I use the RC and public nightly versions and sometimes the regular release
and I too have been seeing this a lot, myself and other avatars
when I ask if others see it, they do not, so I take a screeny and show them... sometimes it is rather funny
(one guy all I saw was eyeballs and one shoe, and a small sliver of his head between the eyeballs)

From: Clarissa Lowell I saw an invisible av. Some trick that! Seriously though, I've also experienced invisible AVs in non-crowded situations a LOT lately. Edit: This is with the Hippo viewer which is based on 1.22

You don't even see your half-baked clothing layers any more. Good to know it's not just our 'puters or connections underperforming. It's much better than Ruth (kinda miss her) or that grey fart (don't miss it at all) we had for a while. I hope skin and clothing makers make a note of this and quit uploading 1024 x 1024 textures.

They're apparently working on a new default skin.
I hope it's something obviously cyberspacey like a tron-suit so it's obviously not a lazy new chum. There's a REASON we got so TIRED of Ruth.

I've got a sh!thot Tron suit in the pipeline - just waiting to get the time to finish it (I think it needs a couple of sculpty details for the head). Maybe I'll let them have a freebie copy of it to use when its ready. I only plan to sell the kinky version when it's done.

I'd like a copy (without the kinky details), 'cos I know Jay Maynard ( http://www.tronguy.net/) and he'd get a kick out of it.

I'll send you one soon as it's done. Mind you, I was hoping the Lindens would introduce animation on worn textures. I figure a Tron suit would have to have some animated strips or whatever. Send me an occasional IM in-world ... I'm a little slow about finishing stuff: nothing ever seems to be right enough to give away let alone sell.

All this time I thought it was just me (not) seeing the invisible avatars!
It's really bad; make going places almost impossible.

Experiencing same probs as everyone else. Can someone point me to where I can find 'draw distance' in the latest release? I have tried everything but still cannot locate it. Can't find it in graphics tab at all. It's probably right in front of my eyes . Thanks for any help.

I've seen people "animate" surface features of avatars by putting almost transparent prims with VERY faint muted patterns over them and set to glow, so the glow effects the colors of the avatar.
