I think I've got it now. You mean for a customer to wire money to LL - yes? We are talking about taking money out of SL.

Yes Phil, the blog post I was referring to regarding fees was about payment to LL, fees to different countries vary greatly so LL wouldn't know what fees to state.

If they're saying they can only do wire for payments over USD$10,000 then they need to modernise their finance department!

Yes, that's it. As of Jan 1, PayPal will be the only method for taking amounts under US$10,000 out. I think it's just a case of LL not having much desire to set up good systems for paying out. Google manages direct deposits ok, with a minimum of US$100, but then a huge part of their business relies on it.

The Royal Mail is managed by the Incompent and filled with thieves. I have packages that go missing all the time (I've learnt never to order online for delivery anywhere in the UK except by DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc). Seven packages (that I know of) have gone missing or been returned in the 3 years I've been exiled here. My last package had all the candy, one necklace and 2 of the 3 staplers removed. (WHY take my effing stapler?!?)

Thus ends my tirade against the <censored> Royal Mail, may they all rot in hell. Noel, noel, noel, noel.

Ugh yes. I sent a package from the US to the UK and it arrived totally smashed to hell. Nice postal system over there. :(

I finally got the cost of wire transfers. LL charges $100 for one (the minimum they'll do is $10,000). From what was worked out earlier in the thread, it's cheaper than the PayPal route but not by much. It's a hell of a lot more than the $15 for a cheque, and it takes less time to do it. The only justification I can see is the same as PayPal - it's a business, so we want a lot more money than the time we spend doing it, which must be all of a minute or two.

So on $10,000, they get a total of $450! That's 3.5% for the transfer from L$ to US$ and an extra 1% to give you your money. Not good.
