PrimPEC
06-23-2008 02:31
This report just in:
PrimPEC says they can pump out 50 more prims a day, but they will cost 50L$ more and if you don't like it then you can go and play with Linden wind powered primmills until the impostered cows come home. The PrimPEC board bagan to laugh evily at this point, stroked severl large, white cats and pushed a button that sent the solar prim delegate down a tube into a tank full of sculptie sharks. _____________________

do you need to contact anyone to do an event at oak grove? its listed in the public linden parcels section of the event venue list. as i understand, those are there for people to use for their events. though i guess there's always the chance of scheduling conflicting events.... If you find out, let me know too. I'd *love* to actually use dat venue for stuff sometime. So, autumn of 2006 maybe?? Anyways, here's what it said, and it sounds like there's no plan for avoiding scheduling conflicts and no plan for coordinating any of it: - You may host the event on your land, even if it's in a Mature sim, so that you can kick out any disrupters. Or feel free to use the Linden facilities at Stage 4 - Dore (247, 7) - or Oak Grove (170, 170). At the very least there should be a sign-up signboard there so people could claim times on a first-come-first-served basis wouldn't you think? _____________________

2. There is also a ghost town, which I'm glad was deserted at the time I was there -- as it is damage enabled. Unfortunately, it looks as if the saloon there suffered at the hand of asset issues, as most of it is just simply gone, leaving windows, railings, and other bits floating in the air. I noticed that too. I wish Eric Linden was around to fix it. Maybe the moles from the Linden Department of Public works could get on that. |

Ever heard of a RL village called Roanoke? Kinda the same thing, in a creepy sort of way. CROATOAN _____________________

The Saloon appears to have largely been resident created content. The prims that are still there are owned by Char and Ryan Linden. It might simply be totally gone. ![]() _____________________

So this info is REALLY old, but back when I was approved as an instructor right before they discontinued the Instructor program... So, autumn of 2006 maybe?? That's right. Instructor class payments ended December 9th, 2006. I remember vividly because I was scrambling to find alternate sources of funding for all of NCI's classes. _____________________

Oh yes, this is a necropost. I started this thread in April of 2008. Apologies.
It was announced at Michael Linden's office hour today that mole work would finally be commencing to repair/replace the damage in Oak Grove. I jes hadda share. Only took, um, 20 months? ![]() _____________________

Marianne I never knew any of these places existed. Maybe the key is publicity.
I'd like to know more about the place that offers education so I can perhaps recommend it to those seeking same. ETA: OH. I really gotta start looking at thread dates! Lol. Congratulations on getting the repairs going. _____________________

That reminds me, I noticed recently that there is still a stage for "Instructor" classes at Oak Grove, but there is no longer an "Instructors" group.
I wonder if they could restore it to the older type stage, which might be said to have more historical value. _____________________

As I recall there is still a stage in the music hall across from the decomposed saloon?
Anyway it's nice this inspires discussion. Mainland is more than just random property owners driving eachother crazy with banlines, script lag and encroachment. SL's had a lot of great content made for people to utilize and enjoy, as well as themed communities. Most of this is Mari's fault of course. I didnt realize at first how much all this old Linden stuff was around and how much they were making. _____________________

Marianne I never knew any of these places existed. Maybe the key is publicity. Perhaps so. I know I promote 'em. There's a billboard on my Bay City - Imaginario plot that is full of landmarks to some of these places. Ditto for the "Exploration" pane on my new Miramare parcel. The travel office in the Hau Koda info hub (the Bay City Municipal Airport) is also full of landmarks to these sorts of places. I do wonder how searchable some of these places are, though. Hmm. I'd like to know more about the place that offers education so I can perhaps recommend it to those seeking same. Sadly, the Oak Grove Educators Stage is all-but-mothballed. You can still "star" it on the map and even use the space all you want -- but there is not official presence with it at this time or, well, in years. That reminds me, I noticed recently that there is still a stage for "Instructor" classes at Oak Grove, but there is no longer an "Instructors" group. I wonder if they could restore it to the older type stage, which might be said to have more historical value. Restoring it back to the Native American village that was once there might even have more historical value. Still, would be nice to see that stage - or an older type stage, or whatever - in use, somehow. I wonder if an NCI type group should consider it and some other mainland spaces in whatever community proposal they might be working on? As I recall there is still a stage in the music hall across from the decomposed saloon? Anyway it's nice this inspires discussion. Mainland is more than just random property owners driving eachother crazy with banlines, script lag and encroachment. SL's had a lot of great content made for people to utilize and enjoy, as well as themed communities. Most of this is Mari's fault of course. I didnt realize at first how much all this old Linden stuff was around and how much they were making. Yup. There is a stage, a general store, a sheriff's office (where the old shooting gallery device is), a stable, and the land office. I love exploring these places. They're Second Life's "State park system," if you will. Little pockets of land that we all can share, that are owned by our governing body (in this case, Linden Lab) for the enjoyment of us all. Some are big, some smaller, each is for all our use. It saddens me when I see them damaged, perhaps in the same way I might be upset to go to go to Point Reyes in SL and see that half the lighthouse was accidently gone, or that someone clogged up Central Park with plywood cubes. That's the sort of thing that inspired this thread so long ago. And yes, there are things like this still going in on a regular basis. The Blake Sea has a ferry service now. Not officially announced as they're still working out the kinks, but its there. There's multiple roads being worked over. There's new railroad stations being built (look in Spangle, Pawpaw, and Crumbi, for example) for some of the northward branches of the SLRR and work being done to make the rail system better and more reliable. Oak Grove is going to be getting love, as is Murray, Kapor, and Rosedale. Bay City, too, is finally getting its street signs. As an aside, one might wish to provide feedback on that at https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/land/dpw/blog/2009/12/17/railway-infrastructure-suggestions - I really hope to see the return of some automated service, while still seeing some availability of the tracks for those who want to venture out with their own rolling stock. Thanks, all. ![]() _____________________
