I ge the concept of your Avatar doing things differently than you would IRL, or acting a bit different , or looking different.
I just don't get the idea that it is somehow a different person from you.
Me as a User and My AV or my Alt AV are all just "ME" to me.

From: HoneyBear Lilliehook What did I miss? You didn't miss anything. There will an alt party sometime in March. Details and exact dates are still being determined. Any and all suggestions can be directed to myself or Claire Silverspar.

From: Wildefire Walcott I am not aiming this at you, Talon- many (most?) people have only one avatar- but as a rule, anyone who adamantly states "I HAVE NO ALTS" whenever the subject of alts comes up usually has a small army of them. LOL - This is often true yes. I know some people that admit to having 8 or so. Which I assume means they have a dozen. I know one guy in at least 4 monogamous SL relationships, but always on the prowl for the next one

I've only recently got my alt to go online. One of my favorite things to do now is hang out with her inworld. I gave her most of my transferable freebies, a ZHAOII I loaded with freebie animations, and one of my own biggie shape projects. It's cool that one of us can be a biggie. There's just no way I can ever be a biggie myself anymore. It's too abnormal and uncomfortable for me. (^_^) My own shape is a mod of a freebie shape I found on my own 2nd day in SL... So, she's the original one. (T_T) But we've already got comments that she looks like my older sister. (>_> (<_< It's almost amazing how much effort it takes to NOT use smilies in her chat lines. (=_=) Now.... Did someone say something about an alt party? (^_^)y

You should post that into the "Can You Trust Your SL Lover" Thread

From: Elora Lunasea I have several alts as well and I do find that they tend to have different personalities, even tho it is still me behind them. I think it does have to do with how they appear. That is my opinion as well.I think your appearance has a little to do with how your personality is shaped. I have two alts now. One I made just for the party since my other one is known by some. I dont use either of them for social situations. They are just there for testing. The second one will probably never even see the light of day again after the alt party. Poor neglected alts

From: Isabeau Imako Haha, Yes, the way we speak (spell) does give us away...
I'm also looking forward to the alt party, although I don't know any of you well enough to guess who's who. Will there be some kind of contest as to who can guess the most real identities? What does the winner win? Bragging rights? A pole dance from his/her favourite av? Real av or alt?
Hmmm, who shall I be, what shall I wear... The pole is not there any longer. At least I didn't see it last night (well, I was there last night but I do not think I looked - so it wasn't there last time I looked).

Me as a User and My AV or my Alt AV are all just "ME" to me. A difference in terms, maybe, or a difference in degree. If your av does different things, looks different, acts different...then it is, in some sense, a different person from the everyday "you". Or a facet of yourself that comes to the fore, as others have said. Of course, all your avs are still "you". They have to be, unless they're bots. But they can be a very different personality...or, put another way, you can play them very differently...than your everyday self. Some people feel this change much more acutely than others. Actors call it "getting into the part", and have a lot of practice in "being" different people.

I created my alt hoping to play around a little with a different personality from Madhu, but it hasn't worked out that way - appearances notwithstanding, my alt is still me. For that reason I think that even I don't say any more about it, at least some of you will recognize my alt at the alt party.

How is that a prize?

I'm guessing we're supposed to bring our alts and guess who's who? Might be tough unless you know the cartel players quite well

Me as a User and My AV or my Alt AV are all just "ME" to me. I think it is a different person in that different areas of personality are stronger or weaker in the alt than they are in the main/RL. The two alts I have used most are almost super distilled extremes in personality. No longer the whole, they are more one dimensional in their actions.

What about different skins/shapes, same alt? When I put on my raven avatar I'm still Isabeau, but I 'feel' very cheeky indeed. For some reason, I get the urge to steal shiny things, all the bling people wear, and bring it to up to my nest. I don't even have a nest... Putting on my tiny wolf avatar just puts me in a good mood, and I can't stop giggling. I 'feel' very cute and cuddly. How crazy is that?! I'm a grown woman, for gad's sake.

I hold to what Stormy and Very said; I have two active alts and one who stays pretty much in my back pocket, and they all manifest slightly different aspects of my personality. All look different. One is of Polynesian heritage, one is male, one is sort of Hispanic. Only Roisin really functions as an extension of the typist directly; the others try to refer to their RL human in the 3rd person. Some of my friends who also know the alts have a hard time dealing with the alts as separate personas. One jokes that I need therapy. Others are accepting but still talk to the alts as though they're with either Ro or the typist. I've been blogging about how my alts function as I explore the phenomenon. http://roisinhotaling.blogspot.com/

Yes, that sort of thing happens to me, too. In RL, "you" are a composite...your mind, your emotions, your appearance, and your reactions to others...as well as how you react to THEIR reactions. SL is no different, except now your av is your appearance. So it shouldn't be surprising that wearing a different av makes you feel and act differently.

From: Talon DeCuir I feel as if I am in the minority - I don't have an alt. Anyone else? Nope never felt compelled enough or that I couldn't do something or I wanted to other then my one account. But it is true, you can like one person and just hate their alt. But I'm sure most of us could write thesis on alts and having to exp them.

Expleasure them? expense them? Export them . . . express exponential exponent experiment on them? exploratory expected expansion explosive experience . . . oooh. having to experience them.

Actually I have no idea what you meant by "having to exp them" and that is why I posted that long list of possibilities. So it is "having to experience them"?

I have just recently created an alt.. surprisingly enough he is very much like Derbor only a little more mainstream. He does have the same the same AO but that was just becasue I did not want to spend the time looking for a new one. One thing that is surprising is that I have not felt the need to make him 'complete' yet... - He has a nice skin, I made him a good a shape, got him good hair (took a long time to find one I liked...) and a few clothes. But he has no shame about wearing the same outfit over and over again. I only take him out when I need some quiet time to attend to sl business. I have a hard time playing him as a different personality than who I am... maybe its just a lack of imagination on my part. Overall I never felt the need for an alt. But there are times when having one would make some things easier. But then again, making things easy is not part of who I am .d
