Payment info on file

A friend of mine entered his credit card details on the website. When he goes into "My Account" it shows "Visa" as his Payment type.

But he's showing up as No Payment info on File in his profile. What else does he need to do?

Perhaps buy a few lindens will bump that.

I don't think LL updates account information to the profile instantly. I opened my basic alts account using Visa as payment information.......and it showed "no payment info on file" until I purchased some Lindens from Lindex (but, that was only a few hours after getting her in the game). Does that help any?

Thanks for the suggestions! That would make it "payment info used" instead of "on file", wouldn't it, though?

He only needs the info "on file" to go to my favourite beach lol. He doesn't actually want to buy any Lindens.

yes. but we didn't know it had been a week until right now. did he buy lindens? (he only has to spend $1US to get things moving). if it doesn't work after that, have him contact LL with live chat.

I'm afraid I won't be much help, but I am "on file" instead of "payment used"... Or I believe, I guess I'd have to double-check? I'll be in world in a mo and I will.

Anyways, I gave payment info when I signed up for the L$ bonus and was "on file" from the start.

/me just logged in and yes, I'm "on file". When the whole "we might close SL to only premium or residents who have used the Lindex" thing came about when they were overloaded, I used the Lindex to sell/buy some, but not from my payment method, just from the L$.

So I assume if you buy L$ from your payment info, it becomes "used". I don't know if using the Lindex will affect anything otherwise, I did find out my lindex limits hadn't changed when I went back months later to possibly use it, so got them to fix that based upon my earlier use, but I use SLX for all that as it's easier for me to understand.

So anyways, that got corrected manually (my lindex limits), so it seems that whole system is a lot less automatic than we'd assume? Perhaps giving payment info when you sign up makes you "on file" while adding it later doesn't automagically?

This question crops up from time to time. The general fix is to use your CC to buy a small amount of lindens to change your account to Payment Info Used. I have actually experienced this with my alt and after waiting two weeks for it to change I just bought about five dollars worth of lindens and it changed the profile info instantly. I recall reading about people who waited a month to no change in their profile info.

OK, so I guess he has to buy Lindens. I'm still confused though - you can restrict people according to TWO categories - "Payment info on file" or "Payment info used".

However, it seems from the posts here that the only way to get payment info on file is to buy Lindens. But surely that would make the account "payment info used"?

It's not that big a deal - I'm sure he can buy some Lindens. It just seems strange to have two categories, when one of them seems to be a physical impossibility. Still, there are lots of things about SL that don't make sense to me! Maybe it's because I'm blond

I'd get him to post here himself to ask - but of course he can't post until he has "payment info on file", lol!!! I guess its a crafty way of saying you have to pay LL *something*, even if it's only a little bit, to get access to forums, support, and parts of the grid. It doesn't bother me, I'm a total shopaholic, but not everyone wants to go down that road I guess. With 12 million users, I suppose it adds up.

used - on file - used - on file ---- i believe they mean the same thing. if memory serves me correctly, it was discussed in this forum that the (term) wording was changed a few months back.

Could it be something to do with the referral system payout?

the same thing happened to me, I updated my payment info, and at first it didn't show up on the website. so I deleted the info and re-entered but this time it appeared on the website, but not on SL under my profile. I'm not to sure what the problem is (I have spent lindens in the game) but just wanted to let you know that your friend isn't alone

Payment info on file is probably set when you give payment info when the avatar is created. If you create the avatar, then put payment info on file, it'll probably not ever show up as payment info on file, the only 'fix' would be to buy some L$ and then it will convert to payment info used. Is this a big deal? Is there someplace that won't let him in unless he has payment info on file? I can imagine this is done because griefers all have no payment info in their profiles.

It gets stranger. *I* have "Payment info on file" but not "Payment info used", because I'm an alt. My main character does have "Payment info used", but I just get my main character to give me L$, so I've never actually used this av to buy Lindens. I've only just remembered that - because I only gave my payment info for this av recently (not when the av was created).

So Payment info on file and Payment info used *are* different.

In my friend's case, he's quite new to SL and was kind of wary about giving out his CC info in the first place. He did it because there are various places that insist on Payment info on file to go to (to prevent griefers), so he finally bit the bullet and gave that info.

It probably isn't a big deal for him to buy some Lindens now he's given out his CC details - but I can understand someone quite new being a bit wary when they're basically told "it's ok, you don't have to give us any money, just your CC details", and then after doing that to be told "actually, you do have to give us some money as well".

I did a check with an alt. I created a shiny new account and got the credit card info into the website, but as the OP noted, still showed as "No Payment Info" in-world. So I tried to buy $1 USD worth of L$. It bumped that minimum purchase up to $2.50 USD, but as soon as I approved that, I was "Payment Info Used" in-world.

- Adding a credit card or verified Paypal account makes it a basic account - that shows Payment Info on File.
- Buying US$ 1 worth of L$ shows Payment Info Used. (Still basic account)

So your friend did the right thing in adding a credit card. I don't know why the info was not updated, it should have almost straight away.

Perhaps with the credit card also some sort of verification needs to be done, like with a Paypal account.

If you add a Paypal account that is not verified, it will show the Paypal in the account details, but the text on the avatar will still be No Payment Info of File. That will only change when the verficaton of Paypal is done.

The problem is, for at least the last several months it has often been the case that a new account which does have valid, verified payment info on file does not show up as such in-world until they actually purchase some L$. I've made several alts and linked them to verified payment sources already in use by my main. And none of the recent ones showed up in-world as 'on file' or 'used' until I bought a few L$ with them.

If your lucky to get a half way desent person dealing with payments......

I have had this same experience. I wonder if this is a permanent change or a bug.

Yep. Right now my accounts are spread out across my PayPal and two credit cards. The recent alts were all on payment methods that had been used for years for some of my existing accounts. Two different cards, and the PayPal account is a verified commercial-grade account.

Yeah. Until I bought some L$ with each one, they each showed up only as "No Payment Info on file". With one account, I let her sit there for several weeks before I gave in and spent a few dollars to buy her correct status indication. She didn't budge until I paid for L$. But as soon as I bought some L$, they zipped to "Payment Info Used".

The annoying thing is, NONE of my alts really need to *buy* L$, ever. My main earns enough L$ in-world that I can provide funds to all of them, and still cash out profits every week or two. I could never quit my day job and live off what I earn in SL. It doesn't pay that well. But I have absolutely no need to purchase L$ or to go Premium so I can get part of that back as a weekly allowance. If I ever did get a Premium account, every L$ that I got back in stipends would just get cashed out.

I have an alt that has PIOF for months. She hasn't purchased anything. She is STILL NPIOF in her profile. I take it that it's permanent now :/
