how to deal with possible phishing, spam?

Hey I muted this one guy then got this other offline message from another....
I didn't click link it might be keylogger or phishing....
but I am posting it here for advise or someone in know how should us residents
deal with stuff like this?
I have no clue how to report this person and in world either or how to do it when
I am offline.
What can be done?
What is this site? Any security experts out there know I don't know if whois information
is correct that I can look up just in case there is some type of security risk.
Is there away to report this to a Linden via emails?
Is there away to complain to domain host notlong.com and encourage them to do something about the spam?

I received one, and from the people in one of my groups, it seems to have increased in the last few days

I got the same message this afternoon.

I've abuse reported every single person that sent me a link to that site, as I've received several already. I think abuse reporting is under the help menu (I can never remember for sure, I just look in them all =)

Easier access to mute/abuse report options might be good if such schemes gain in popularity, because unsolicited IMing of people is forbidden in the SL terms of service iirc. You can kind of get away with it with things like vendor systems that issue alerts on product updates or something but otherwise it's all spam if the person didn't knowingly ask for it.

Yeah I got this on my 4 alts too, it's only the tip of the iceberg, thankgoodness I don't have all their IM's sent to email too.

I too have received this message - once earlier this week and the other earlier this evening from a different person gggrrrrrrr..............

FD, the notlong.com site doesn't look like it's the offending business. It's just an url redirection service. It redirects to the cutiebutt site that I've been hearing of from other people. Certainly AR them as their site is deceptively attempting to look like the main SL website.

According to the NotLong terms of service at http://notlong.com/terms/ , you should use their contact form to report people who are abusing their service. That will probably put a stop to them fairly quickly, if enough people do it.

And more that not, that's a "thank you for supplying us an email to spam, have a nice day!" response.

I've been getting those same messages in private IM for the past 3 days now.

Yeah I wonder if its going to get worse...seems like spammers are trying to find new ways to spam i.e blogs and here.
Wonder how bad it will get before Linden Labs does something about it.

I AR every message from these useless wastes of protoplasm. Yes, I know "AR flood 4TL" and all that, but I don't want the same stupid problem that plagues RL email to find its way here.

Ban them, vigorously pursue them, boil them in oil. Whatever it takes.

Given the past record, probably pretty bad, and take pretty long. Fortunately the above suggestions make it look like there are things the Residents can do too, besides filing ARs and support tickets.

I just looked up those phone numbers and it seems that they are linked to several other scams... so keep the ARs going.

Problem is I have with reporting abuse is its very confusing and difficult for me to use.
Last time I tried I literally couldn't find the send button and first time I took so long to try to figure out thing the screen disappeared.
Jira is even confusing to me.
I just wish their was away to submit like screen shoot or information via email but I guess someone would have to go through all the emails thus costing money and time from something else.
I am not able to deal with this in world. I would report this but I can't.

I, too, have recieved this same IM from 3 different people; but, the same message. I've AR'd each and everyone of them. I've had enough of that from World of Warcraft.

I think this warrants a MAC ban.

Select name of person (copy/paste from IM window is easiest)
Subject: Unsolicited IM abuse (free Linden dollars scam sites)
Description: Copy/paste the chat text from the IM, including their name
Click "Report Abuse" button

Done

Lather, Rinse, Repeat on any more that pop up.

If you're talking about the whois phone numbers that were posted, I'm not sure if those are the phone numbers of dotster or notlong, but either way, they're probably not directly involved in the spam. Dotster is a registrar which, like many others, provides privacy services to people who register domains with them. Notlong seems to be providing a service similar to tinyurl.

In any event, notlong.com, to their credit, has taken down the link mentioned in the base post.

That is good thing to know.
I assume this means someone did something about it.

I musta pissed it off when I sent it back a few hundred notecards

Well at least my AR must have worked, the name no longer exists in search and there's no object at that location, looking throught the emails it's sent me this from 1300 different sims.
It appears from the emails this thing visits around 23 sims per minute. It did this for 3 hours spamming my IM & email averaging 7.5 sims per minute. NO WONDER THE GRID IS BJORKED!
