Did you know you have to have payment info on file to read this?

Tried to post as an alt, but since there is no payment info on file, they would not allow me to log on to this forum as Bodacious Buttercups.

Anyone who thinks this forum gets a lot of eyeballs and is a good cross section of the SL population should think again. It's just a few people willing to give out their credit card info jabbering at each other.

So you can go in-world with no payment info, but you can't come here? Once again, LL's priorities seem off to me...

^^Fixed.

It's been like that since August 2006. I'm not fond of the idea either, but I'm surprised it's news to you.

It always seems crazy to me, it's the newbies that need the most help and they don't even have access to read up before parting with money.

I just logged in with my unverified alt. I can read everything just fine. I think you only need payment info on file to post. -- KC

Ok. So I only need to give them credit card info if you want to ask a question. Gotcha. Still sucks.

For the right amount of $L, anyone can get past Bodacious Buttercups.

I think the idea is to stop the griefers cluttering up and disrupting the forum as much as they do SL.

If they think that's a good idea here in the forums, you'd think they'd realize it's just as good of an idea in SL.

SL has too many rotten apples

I am a newbee in SL. I join SL to learn the good things, like LSL,3D,buildings etc. But as soon as I put up a interesting building on my land, I was attacked by griefers daily to a point I could not even walk in my land......It seems SL has make a unconcious decesions to enpower the rotten AVs and drive all good AVs away....

you don't need to part with money to read this forum, just have your info on file. once it's on file, you can delete it and still get in here. the question is, is it REALLY deleted?

If you created your alt around June-July 2006 there was a glitch that let unverifieds in for a few days.

---

Personally I still don't see any problem with keeping unverifieds out of the forums. The only result would be griefing and harassment just like most of them cause in-world. No payment info, no privileges.

On the secondlife.com site there is a link for support.

Take the KnowledgeBase link - that directs your to log in.

Then look at the links on the left or use the search field.

Also, on the suppport page, on the right, there's a link to the wiki, with the slogan "How to do everything in SL." There's tons of info in the wiki, though it's not organized in such a fashion as to be easily findable by a new user.

It strikes me as strange that the old F1 Help files are still in existence, but the main index page has been changed to redirect you to the support portal. The old F1 help info was a pretty good beginners guide to SL.

I asked about allowing read access for no payment info users, but it's apparently very difficult to do with vBulletin.

More difficult than turning on bbc code?

Tomorrow makes 5 months!!! since the BBC code announcement

Either they should fix the BBC code or else delete the announcement - its embarassing.

Looking at https://*.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/vb2_manual_cp_modformperms appears to suggest that allowing anyone, SL resident or not, to have read only access to the forums is just a matter of checking one checkbox.

The wiki is readable by anyone, SL resident or not. Why is the wiki readable by anyone while the forums are not?

As I recall Stife there are versions of BB that allow read only. Why not this one? That might be a problem solving soluation.

The reason for only allowing verified customers to post on this forum is pretty easy to work out....

It stops commercial spam.

If anyone could just create an account from a LL's web page and then have access to these forums, we would certainly be inundated with penis enlargement and viagra ads, gold spammers from other games and God knows what else...

So yep.. it's a smart move by LL IMHO.. :)

Edit: ahh and as for the reading of these forums... umm.. yep, i can't work out that one either.

Those that remeber the flood of alts that filled sl back in 6/6/2006 also remeber the mess this forum was also. But have a read only forum for those with no payment information online would solve the problem.

i don't think anyone thinks most ppl read these forums.

i'd be surprised if 5% of the population bothers.
