I'm just curious as to what viewers people use and how satisfied with it they are. I started using Boy Lanes "Cool Viewer" a little over two months ago and I'm very happy with it. Before that I used the "Standard Viewer" for over 2 1/2 years and added Marines "RLV" right after she released it. I was very hesitant to switch viewers at first since 1.22.11 was pretty stable for me but after reading and re-reading posts on Boy Lanes site and hearing others talk about various viewers I decided to give it a try. So, what viewer do you use and what kudos do you have regarding it?

I've used 1.22 since March and had zero problems. I also added RLV 1.17 to 1.22 about a month or so ago, again, no problems. Just put 1.23 and RLV 1.18 on my "sandbox" computer (all are WinXP SP3) and it's run OK for a couple of days but I haven't stressed it much and I think the problems I've had with it are due to sim lag.
Both desktop and laptop are dual core Intel (3.0 and 2.8 ghz respectively) with NVidia graphics. _____________________

I use the non Windlight Cool Viewer 1.19.5. It works very well for me.

Dante's Viewer.
It's Emerald + RLV + Various little patches I picked up here and there. And it gives me the tag " <-- Fag)" to other emerald users. |

The standard 1.23.4 viewer and Snowglobe 1.0.2 sometimes. Occasionally Kirsten's SD2-R7 shadowdraft viewer. All hacked to be large address aware so they don't run out of memory and crash when I use unreasonably long draw distances.
I'll use RC and Public Nightly viewers when they're available. _____________________

I'm still using the 1.22 viewer.
I downloaded the 1.23 Release Candidate to look at the shadows that you can enable with it. They are impressive but the frame rate is very slow, which I knew to expect. After hearing about peoples' problems with the 1.23 main viewer, I decided to stick with 1.22 as long as possible. I tried Snowglobe, which seems about the same performance as the 1.22. I also have the 3DX viewer, for when I occasionally log in to Open Life, and the Hippo viewer to use with OpenSim. _____________________

I normally use the most recent RC but tried out Snowglobe a week or so ago and it made a huge difference...not only my textures load much faster but my fps now stay between 40-45. I did have to follow the tutorial on snowglobe adustments to get it working well though. I have windows xp but a friend with Vista could not get her fps down when she used it. Do have problems with it every now and then and will go back to the RC temporarily...and it just reaffirms to me how awful the textures load in the RC and how bad the lag is.

Whenever I used Emerald, which was rare since it kept crashing on me, it would adding an Emerald tag to other Emerald users. I did not notice a "Fag" tag being added. |

Link to the referenced Snowglobe tutorial please. The only one I can find is Torley's blurb on how the map works. _____________________

Just giving the new RLV/official release combo a try, but recently I've been using the current Cool Viewer. I like Emerald too. It's very rare I use the official viewer these days.
PreviouslyI used the Nicholaz viewer, particularly the Eye Candy version. It still gets an airing when I log on an alt at the same time. _____________________

I'm using 1.22.11. I don't upgrade unless I have to.

Just giving the new RLV/official release combo a try... It needed a relog to get anti-aliasing working, and crashed within 20 minutes. Setting new standards there guys. _____________________

I am also using 1.22.11. I try each new RC as they come out, but the complete lack of response to fixing glaring bugs in 1.23 has made that client one I refuse to upgrade to. Until they at least fix the bug that makes my HEAD dissapear, or makes by body vanish, I refuse to use it for anything other than doing a quick bulk perms change, or setting Adult access flags.
There are some nice features and fixes in 1.23 that I would like to use regularly, like the bulk permissions changes and the ability to set permissions on bulk uploads. But I refuse to use a client that intermittently makes my head look like a B-grade horror movie special effect. I've tried a few of the alternate clients, but I rarely stick with them for long. While I am sure Boy Lane and some fo the other better-known independant developers are concientious and honest, tere is just WAY too much of a chance that someone can slip in malware into an open-source / hacked client. I can't trust them, and I don't have the time or skills to pour through reams of someone else's code to personally be sure no malware is in there. _____________________

Right now, I'm using the Snowglobe viewer. Things are rezzing MUCH more quickly with it that with any other viewer I've tried.
Before that, I was using the KirstenLee viewer...and on occasion, whatever the latest RC viewer was at the time. |

FYI to all estate managers and owners. If you are using a 1.22 based viewer and you open the region/estate menu for a sim set to Adult, it will instantly revert to Mature. It doesn't matter if you opened the menu to do something completely unrelated such as restarting or checking script time, it will still revert. I had to change to the 1.23 based Emerald for this reason.

I use the Emerald but have never been able to get voice working - so when i need voice i go back to Kirsten's- i seldom use the Sl official clients. I have never seen FPs of 40 anything with any viewer- but that is because my equipment not the viewers.

Cool viewer 1.23.4 or something like that, and now and then, Snowglobe.
Don't like the lack of features in Snowglobe, not sure if it works any better, can't figure out why I didn't just uninstall it. I think I'm hoping for somebody to pick it up and add the features of Cool viewer into it. ![]() _____________________

I was using nothing but RCs since they first announced Windlight. Since then I'd been using Emerald for the past month or so until last week when I switched to Gemini.

1.22.11 for my desktop (1.23 suxxors). And Snowglobe for my laptop (which has ancient integrated Intel graphics), where it loads textures really fast (compared to other viewers).
Snowglobe makes no noticeable difference on texture load times on my desktop, but does crash every once in a while. . |

Primary: CoolSL Viewer 1.23.4 by Henri Beauchamp.
Secondary: Greenlife Emerald 1.22.11 I also have CoolSL 1.22.11 installed, but will probably wipe it soon because I no longer have a need for it - 1.23.4 has proven to be stable for me, and it has Emerald's double-click to TP feature now, whereas 1.22.11 doesn't. I tried the Snowglobe viewer, but found the lack of features I have long ago taken for granted, such as the "Worn" tab in my inventory, to be a major turn-off. I may give it a try again if CoolSL diffs become available for it. Emerald was a great viewer, but I found the lack of certain features, such as the ability to double-click on a worn item to take it off/detach it, to be rather annoying. However, its avatar radar is really, really nice and handy at times! CoolSL picked up Emerald's double-click-to-TP feature, so that's one less reason for me to hang on to Emerald... And then there's the issue with the now-missing Linux versions... _____________________

I alternate between the regular 1.23.4 and the Open Metaverse Meerkat viewer.
