Dealing with Group Invitations

ok, to clarify - the business isn't new - it's been around for around a year (quite a while in SL-time) - we were simply looking for a way to inform those customers that wanted to be informed. We didn't consider offering them an invite to a group (rather than spam-IMing anybody that bought anything from us) would be considered offensive, spam or harassment - now I am learning otherwise.

We for sure only want people to come when they feel like it - our goal is merely to let people know of new products, so that they don't waste their time coming to the store when there is nothing new there they are interested in.

In terms of frequency - we make one announcement every month or so to the group. We do not use the group chat at all and warn anybody that does.

We have got a lot of very good feedback from our regular customers about the group and most are very pleased to join. I just want to make sure that people are respected in their SL lives and don't feel harassed. I realise that we can't keep all the people happy all the time, though, which is why I posted here. To-date we have got exactly one complaint, and I wanted to see if that was an exception or if more of the "regulars" felt that way. From reading the comments here, I see that there is a section of RL-society that does not appreciate it, and I respect that. For that reason I am going to stop sending out the invites, and I'm not going to be IMing everyone (because I think that is more of an intrusion than the group invite).

We will find another way that is both visible and opt-in.
